Thank you for looking at our products. This is a father-and-son owned and run business and our products are all made here by hand, by Radigan and me. He and I design every single one of our products and we choose to sell only our own items. My knowledge comes from years of living the life that many of you live - I was an outfitter for many years, we're hunters, fisherman and men who shave, and we use only our own knives, razors and brushes, and everything else we sell. We both also have a really strong feeling for the way things USED to be built. I've realized over the years that my products generally outlast and outperform quite a lot of products that are available in stores - and this is because I know what works and what doesn't. I also have learned that older materials, repurposed, usually outlast materials that are currently available. One example is the vintage steel I use in knives - there's just nothing out there that's comparable in price to what I can make with repurposed steel, like old saw blades. Also - I just love making something out of what others would consider trash (although this has caused my wife, Lane, some consternation over time….) The detail and specificity that I put into my work is also a trademark of ours. You can't built quality if you're in a hurry - and we aren't. We don't build for speed and efficiency, we build for quality and to do the best job possible. There's nothing we enjoy more than our customers' praise for something we've built that performs as well as they hoped it would.
The picturte above is looking down into Dry Creek Basin, and yes that is really where I live.

About

Dry Creek Craftsmen create usable and durable tools which are also works of art.

Dan Koon has lived in SW Colorado for most of his life, much of which has been spent guiding and outfitting. During this time he has learned to make many things out of what others might see as junk; however, his eyes see differently - repurposing many types of materials. For example, he uses old saw blades to fashion knives, which often turn into works of art while remaining functional. His son, Radigan, has grown up with this mind-set as well, allowing them both to see "treasure in trash." They each also love to use antler, horn and bone in their work - Dan's time as a taxidermist comes in handy there as well. Although Dan has made knives for years, he's recently branched out in the area of refurbishing and restoring antique straight razors, using many reclaimed materials in this process as well.

Dan and Radigan are also naturally drawn to the mountain-man era, which shows in the scrimshaw animal art in their powder horns, powder measures and other possibles they make. This shop is the natural outgrowth of all of their combined interests, which include forging, wood- and leather-craft, hunting, knives - just to name a few. They each feel strongly about making things that will last, while remaining items that your hands will want to use. Watch Dry Creek Craftsmen's shop to see what new ideas come out of their minds on a regular basis - you may be surprised!
