Well, I never received this item, so I can't really comment on its quality. All I can say is that the sender did not follow up on delivery. Would not recommend.

About

Architect to builder to craftsman to explorer.

Over the years I have designed and built everything from mudtraps to mansions. This provides somewhat of a strange background for my current retreat into research.

I work alone out of an 8' x 14' space. In this space is stuffed two table saws, a band saw, a jointer, two drill presses, two belt sanders, four grinders, a lathe, and every hand tool known to man. One advantage of such a small space is that I don't have to walk very far to get the next tool.

I make things to explore what is possible. If a piece of art is used every day, it is appreciated that much more, so I return constantly to the question of whether what is being made is practical.

Many of the pieces include the search for the perfect curve. Less than one out of a thousand excellent compositions will have it. Here are the seven laws of the perfect curve:

1. It never stops... you cannot tell where or if it begins or ends.
2. It transitions from convex to concave in such a way that it is impossible to tell where the transition point is.
3. While similar to the 'tortured curve' of Art Nouveau, it must not show it; it always reads relaxed and natural.
4. It is three-dimensional, not a carving from a drawing.
5. It makes the piece look like it's bursting in all directions with energy.
6. It both flows and rests simultaneously.
7. And if 'reversed' with the space around it, reads equally well: positive/negative space must have a clean and dynamic dialogue.

The perfect curve is one of the most delicate and beautiful accomplishments in turning and sculpture. You will always find it emerging in my pieces, and occasionally, just occasionally, I get it complete. Even the sanding process can ruin the perfect curve, as I learned on the second time I ever carved one.

This and many similar pursuits keep the shop running at all hours.

This is Ducq Work. These are the spinoffs of a continuing lifetime of exploration.

Welcome to Ducq Work. I believe in more than satisfied customers, I believe in friendship. In the past when I've built a deck or sold a wooden spoon, it has always been with the understanding that you now own a piece of my name. As such, if it ever gets damaged, or even if you lose it, I make my name good and replace it.
