Doodling With a Purpose

In 2017, I was given an iPad as a gift. I was excited, but I had no idea how to work it and hadn't drawn for years. I had taken art classes when I was younger but my education and career took a different turn, so I hadn't pursued it. However, I'd always found ways to be creative over the years, from cosplay to poetry to making gift baskets for friends. So that spark was still in me.

The iPad ended up being the best gift I could have ever gotten. I started doodling again, and it reignited my passion for creating. I started an Instagram account -- after much poking and prodding from friends -- to house my artwork. I posted periodically and participated in art challenges like Inktober. And that's more or less where it stood until January 2020.

I had a big milestone birthday coming up, and I had been thinking about all the things I had wanted to do before it came -- learn to play guitar, learn to knit, do something with my art. I hadn't done any of it! Isn't that how life goes though? You get busy and make excuses. But I wanted to check at least one of these things off my list, and so I prioritized the one I wanted to do most: doing something with my art.

As the world became increasingly confusing and frightening due to the Coronavirus outbreak, I started thinking about the self-isolation and that people need each other more than ever. I thought what I would really love would be to get a greeting card in the mail -- some little hello to stay connected to my loved ones when I couldn't see them in person. And that's where the idea for my greeting cards came from. I decided to start with pop culture and fandoms that I'm a part of. I expanded from friendship/just because cards to birthdays and other occasions -- cards year-round!

I hope you enjoy my work and use these cards to bring joy to other people, and we can keep passing the love around. If there is one thing that we have, it's each other.

P.S. My lovely EB Corbin logo was designed by the very talented Tina Alfaro of UnicornDesignStudio. Check her out on Etsy!
