EL3M Creations was born from necessity. My daughter, Evie, was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome in 2013 and she relies on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Eventually, we met Susan Norwell, co-founder of Rett University, and saw that she utilized a simple Yes/No board to help her teach literacy and communication. But, we could not purchase one for home use. The boards were no longer being made.
My mother, Joyce, and I put our heads together and create our own Yes/No board. After a few months of trial and error, we finally had our first board and passed it along to Susan and Kourtney, from Rett University, to test them out. The boards were a success! Functional, durable, and inexpensive communication aid. It was a victory for us.
We decided to make them available to a broader market and came up with EL3M Creations. Trees have often been used as symbols of knowledge and learning which is why we used the elm tree as the foundation of our name and ELM are my daughter's initials. There are three generations that create and inspire EL3M Creations and we wouldn't be here without each one.
Eventually, we plan to grow our shop by including other items we create out of necessity and a few other we make for fun.
