The family legacy of VrtěLoutky

My name is Jana Vrtělová Holbert. I am originally from Czech Republic, but now live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest of USA. I am a wife, mother, scientist, crafter and perfectionist. I am also a woodcarver and marionette/puppet maker. I got into woodcarving because of my grandpa, who was an amazing marionette and puppet maker, and the director of a puppet theatre in my hometown. Unfortunately, he died before I was born, but I inherited his unfinished puppets and carving tools (which I use regularly).
VrtěLoutky is combination of my surname (and my grandpa's surname) and the word "loutky" which means marionettes in Czech.
My earring making started as an offshoot of my marionette making; all the basswood offcuts that are not big enough for puppet making are the perfect size for making earrings.

I love bringing the character design of marionette making into my earrings. I hope they make you smile.
