Providing all-natural, temporary henna and jagua tattoo kits for beautiful body art

In 1997, we, (husband and wife team) Carine Fabius and Pascal Giacomini, opened the first temporary henna tattoo studio in the U.S. Unprecedented media attention followed, and we soon realized that people wanted a home-use kit.

The search for good quality henna took Pascal to the outer limits of the Sahara desert, where he was introduced to a Berber family of henna farmers. He watched them harvest the plant, bring it to the mill, where the dried leaves are turned to powder, then sifted to ensure a flawless application.

The shelf-life was another issue. A fresh henna paste lasts only three days; keeping it natural was key. After working tirelessly to find that longer shelf-life recipe, a reputable cosmetic lab ran a skin patch trial on a hundred people. When it came back 100% negative, we threw a party!

Years later, upon learning about the jagua fruit used by indigenous Indians for body adornment, Pascal headed for the Peruvian Amazon in an effort to deliver what people wanted next: safe, black temporary tattoos.

Three plane rides and days on a dugout canoe led him to the Matsés Indians deep in the heart of the jungle. According to local customs, Pascal brought machetes, fish hooks, medicine and t-shirts for the community, and explained his quest to the tribal council. He got lucky. This tribe had only come in contact with the outside world in 1967 and were not very trusting of outsiders. But they welcomed him and showed him the fruit; he stayed weeks to learn their processes.

Back home with jagua juice in hand, we again had to find a way to package it and test it for safety. We finally chose to freeze-dry the juice, and successfully introduced our jagua kit.

Today we still work with our Moroccan Berber family and help when needed—we have twice financed new water wells to save the farm. And, we give part of our proceeds to our Matsés friends every year for malaria medication and other healthcare needs.

Our Hollywood, California office, where the kits are assembled, and orders are processed and shipped, is staffed by three full-time and one part-time team of supportive and magical elves and fairies, who really care about the business and making customers happy.

You can find Carine’s two books on henna and jagua temporary tattoos, and Pascal's documentary, Land of Jagua, on our site,

Welcome to Earth Henna! We believe in self expression, and our temporary tattoo kits help people to do just that because they can change their tattoo whenever they change their minds! Safe and all-natural, Earth Henna and Earth Jagua kits endeavor to make that process easy and fun. Our pure henna comes from a family of Moroccan farmers; the indigenous Matsés people from the Peruvian Amazon supply us with our jagua juice, which we use to make the Earth Jagua gel. All our products are dermatologically tested. Part of our proceeds go back to the farmers and the Indians for healthcare needs. Here's to self expression in the most beautiful way!
