Announcement   Welcome to my shop! I have many other pieces -- convo me if you want to see more.

These wall hangings are about focusing on the here and now. The bottom represents connection to the earth and the top represents sky. The middle is where we are, where practice occurs. I make them out of materials that I love -- old kimono fabric and vintage buttons. They vary widely in their colors, textures and imagery. My hope is that you will find one (or more) that will enhance your yoga or meditation practice, delight your eye, and grace your living space.

About

EarthNowSky was born when I started making these prayer flags for myself and just couldn't stop!

Several years ago I cleared out space in my house to create a yoga room. Inspired by the artwork of two friends with whom I practice yoga and by Tibetan prayer flags, I decided to decorate my new room with materials that I love – kimono fabric and old buttons. I made enough wall hangings for my yoga room and then just kept making them. I couldn’t stop! I have too much fun choosing the fabrics and buttons and putting the banners together.

Since my idea was to support a home yoga practice, the banners are about focusing on the here and now. The bottom represents connection to the earth and the top represents sky. The middle is where we are, where practice occurs. The buttons are centered in each section, mandala-like, to encourage centering. The extra buttons, beads, appliqué or embroidery bring out something special I see in the fabric.

I’ve always admired cultures such as Japan’s that pay attention to beauty in the everyday, offering frequent moments of pleasure and mindfulness. This kind of attention is shown in each piece of the endless variety of fabrics – silk, wool, cotton, rayon, dyed, painted, woven, embroidered, printed. I love that the fabric all comes from used kimonos – the occasional flaws are the evidence of living. The buttons, some inherited from my grandmother, are small surprises; think of the effort someone went to, to design and make these beautiful or interesting things for such a simple purpose.

Welcome to my etsy shop. I hope you enjoy my wall hangings. While I have always been a creative person, I'm new at selling my work. I'm interested in your response to the work. So far the best part of this process has been seeing the pleasure my work brings others.
