Earthen - Past present future... earth to earth, not to ashes
Earthen jewellery is hand crafted art jewellery that remixes ancient themes with contemporary design to present a unique earthy, urban and primitive chic.
It is about time and remembering. People's enduring beliefs and common ground. It is jewellery with stories to tell and speaks through the tool marks made by real people, and remixes age old symbolism and concepts with a contemporary view.
Earthen is also about earth to earth, not to ashes. It uses recycled materials as much as possible and avoids new gold and gems. There may be the homeopathic parts of a copper age knife reworked into a bracelet. There's definitely a hope that a child who died mining the metal for that knife is remembered today with a reprieve for another.
The ceramic jewellery elements, and the sculptural figures and vessels, are made from hand dug clay with hand ground grog and sand textures, as a homage to truth and tradition. They are raku fired, and sometimes archaeologically reconstruction fired even though the reconstruction clamp kiln firings are rarer now due to the labour intensiveness. I have had many requests for the figures to return and raku will make it possible.
Please bear in mind that there is often only one or two of a piece available at any one time and I'm often unsure when they will return once gone. The figures and vessels can be more infrequent. If there is something you would like please do catch it before it's gone or get in touch to put a reserve on it.
You can find a little more about me and how how Earthen came about in my profile which is in the shop owner's link in the top right corner of the page.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy your journey through Earthen.
Accepted payment methods
- Accepts Etsy gift cards
I can also accept UK cheques which will need to clear before shipping.
Please bear in mind that the figures and pottery are specialist items and very occasionally they may take a little longer, so please order in plenty of time. I will keep you updated if there is a delay.
Shipping is by Royal Mail, 1st Class Recorded within the UK, signed and tracked where possible to overseas by the quickest service. This is mainly to ensure that ceramics are in transit as short a time as possible and they get to their correct destination in one piece. I'm afraid I can't offer surface shipping to overseas, there is no tracking available and a higher chance of breakage or loss due to extended transit times.
Combined shipping with two or more figures/pottery is often not feasible because of weight limits and costs. If I manage to combine or can use a different service I will refund any saving.
Occasionally clearance procedures are required and can cause delays. Buyers are responsible for all duties, taxes, levies or fees incurred at point of entry to the buyer's country in the rare event that your package is picked out.
When shipped transit times within the UK are 1-2 days. To Western Europe is around 4 days. To the U.S. it averages around a week and the rest of the world can vary between 1 to 2 weeks. Variations can occur but progress can be easily checked via the tracking number.
Refunds and Exchanges
Ceramics and jewellery have limited insurance with Royal Mail. Using a courier that insures these items can more than double the price of the order. Therefore, if a figure arrives broken I will personally replace it. This has happened only a couple of times so far but if you do receive a damaged piece please just send me snapshots showing how you found it with the packaging and I will get another to you.
