Communication with Gill was fantastic. He kept us posted as he made the custom ring. It was exactly what we wanted and asked for. He also sends great information on how to care for the ring. If you want something special, handmade, and perfect for the musician - this is a great wedding band!!

The quality of this ring is amazing. I could not be more pleased to exchange this ring with my future husband on our wedding day. Gill does amazing work and made sure to keep me updated throughout the entire process. Overall, the product and the customer service Gill provided were both top quality.

From custom order, to prototype, to product, lunar meteorite rings have been a joy to make! While they'll have their own listing soon, for now they can be ordered as a variation on my standard meteorite rings.

About

An unconventional journey, an unusual setting, and an unbelievable ring!

Ébéniste is the French word for cabinetmaker, and while not a word usually associated with jewelry, there's nothing particularly usual about the rings or how this venture came to be. To tell the story of Ébéniste Jewelry is to tell my story. My name is Gill, I make rings, and this is the short history of how it all came about.

I got my first electric guitar when I was 18 and immediately started thinking about how I could modify it to make it better. Little did I know this would lead to a career in woodworking with a focus on wooden jewelry. After studying electrical engineering, business, and personal training, along with jobs that ranged from line cook to debt collector, my love of music eventually led to a music degree. That first guitar was never far from my mind, however, and the desire to build musical instruments led me to a trade certification in cabinetmaking, which is where I fell in love with woodworking and design. After further studies in furniture design, I one day crafted a wooden ring for my girlfriend, and the joy it brought her was something I knew I wanted to share with the world.

My workshop started out as a work bench made of 2x4s and a small bench-top drill press in my tiny apartment. My neighbours hated me. Eventually I took the plunge and invested in a fully equipped 800-square-foot industrial space that I shared with a fellow furniture maker. That first ring I made inspired my first models, which I started posting on Etsy way back in 2008. As my rings evolved and gained popularity, I noticed I was spending far more time making jewelry than making furniture, and it was there that I saw an opportunity: rather than expand and automate for the sake of increasing production, I decided to downsize and simplify in order to focus on quality and to achieve a work/life balance I had long desired.

In simplifying my process and opting for hand tools over machinery, I could now set up shop anywhere, so I eventually divested myself of not just my machinery and industrial space, but my apartment and most of my possessions as well. In 2016, I purchased a van, converted it into a camper, set up a workspace within it to make my rings, and hit the road! These days, I live a life of discovery and adventure, one in which I can indulge in my passions for travel, music, and skydiving. The joy my lifestyle affords me is the same joy I hope to share with the world through my rings.

My rings are a manifestation of what I believe in:

Honesty: I'll never pretend to be anything I'm not, and I have no desire to misrepresent my rings either. From the descriptions to the pictures, I do my best to ensure that the ring you see on the screen will be an accurate representation of the ring you'll be wearing on your finger.

Getting What You Pay For: There's no need to pretend - I know my rings represent a significant financial investment. Rest assured, however, that the price tag is a fair representation of the amount of work that goes into each ring. Simply put: I'd rather spend more time making a ring I'm proud of than cut corners and ship a piece I can't stand behind.

Being You: My rings are the result not just of hours of work, but of a lifetime of experience as well. My life has been unconventional, to say the least, and I strive to make my rings every bit as unique as my experiences. My goal is to work with you to create a ring that stands out and expresses your individuality too.
