About

A long journey that's just beginning.

I got my first electric guitar when I was 18 and immediately started thinking about how I could make it better. Little did I know this would lead to a career in woodworking with a focus on wooden jewelry, with several stops along the way.

Those stops, which included studies in electrical engineering, business, personal training, and a degree in music, along with jobs that ranged from line cook to financial agent helped me through my industry training in cabinetmaking and furniture design and in many ways influence everything I design and make today.

My shop started out as a work bench made of 2x4s and a tiny bench top drill press in my apartment. My neighbours hated me. Eventually I took the plunge and invested in a fully equipped 800 square foot industrial space that I share with a fellow maker. The transition was scary, but by far the best decision I could have made. These days I focus on wooden jewelry and decorative items, but when the urge hits I'll still take some time to build a guitar, a chair, a rocking horse, or anything else that comes to mind.

My shop is evolving every day, there's always a new idea and a new design begging to be explored and never enough hours in the day. I'm not making any plans and have no idea what the future holds, but I sure look forward to finding out!

I was born and raised in Montreal and eventually moved back after many years away. My love of music led me to fixing up and customizing guitars, which introduced me to woodworking, and eventually wooden jewelry. I never looked back.

Shipping
I ship everything through Canada Post, they're not the fastest service available but they definitely provide the most bang for the buck. Insurance is usually included unless otherwise stated and will always be available at extra cost. If you're in a rush just let me know, I'll gladly ship express. Any lost or damaged items will be completely covered by Canada Post if insurance was purchased, otherwise the buyer assumes all responsibility. I only ship twice a week, so items that are ready to go might still need a day or two before they get sent out.
Refunds and Exchanges
I stand by my work and will gladly exchange or refund any items that don't meet expectations in terms of quality, but rings that are made to order take far too long to make and replace when someone changes their mind or orders the wrong size. Please be sure of what you're ordering and I'll do my best to make it better than you expected.

FAQs

Why choose a wooden ring?
Jewelry is a very personal choice and wood is definitely not for everyone, but be it for the minimal ecological impact, metal allergies, or just its natural beauty, wood is a perfect choice for those who are looking for something just a little bit different.

How long will an Ébéniste ring last?
Our rings are made to last a lifetime, and with proper care and maintenance will last several lifetimes. The key is keeping the rings clean and dry, which means avoiding water, household cleaners, and any other harsh chemicals that may damage the finish.

How strong are the rings?
Our rings are a lot stronger than one might think a wooden ring to be and will not break or splinter from daily use over many, many years. Much like with metal rings, the surface can be scratched if handled roughly, proper care is essential in keeping the ring looking good for a lifetime.

Are the rings waterproof?
Our rings are finished in cyanoacrylate, which essentially encloses the ring and inlay in a coat of acrylic and protects it from water. While the rings are definitely water resistant, experience has taught us that no wood finish is 100% waterproof. After all, even boats need to be regularly refinished. For this reason we recommend taking the rings off before swimming, showering, even hand washing to be on the safe side, especially for rings with metal inlays that could rust if regularly exposed to water.

How do I care for a wooden ring?
Keeping your wooden ring clean and dry is the best possible way to care for it. The finish does not need to be waxed or oiled as these products will not be absorbed by the wood, but rather will rub off on your hands. Avoiding chemicals such as household cleaners, hand sanitizers, etc. is essential in keeping the ring in great shape for decades to come.

What happens if I notice some damage to the ring?
We stand by our work, and any ring that has been properly cared for but still shows signs of wear or damage can be sent back at any time for repair or replacement for nothing more than the cost of shipping. Please note that our warranty does not apply to water damage. Rings that have been water damaged can be repaired or refinished at cost whenever possible.

What happens if my ring is lost or stolen?
While a lost or stolen ring is outside of our control, we understand the significance of the investment these rings represent, and we would like to help. Any lost ring can be replaced with a ring of the exact same style at 50% our current price, plus taxes and shipping, within six months of purchase.

How do I know my size?
While there are lots of tips and trick on the internet for determining your ring size, the only safe bet is going to a reputable jeweller to get sized. These rings represent a considerable investment after all, and there's no sense in putting money into something that won't fit.

How long will it take for my ring to arrive?
A ring will take approximately 2 to 3 weeks to complete depending on the complexity and current demand. Canada Post takes over from there, and can usually deliver in 4-10 business days within the USA and Canada.

Can you rush my order for a fee?
All of our customers are equally valuable to us, and it wouldn't be fair to prioritize an order because someone is willing to pay more. Keeping this in mind, we do not offer a rush order service. Express shipping is available upon request and we'll do our best to produce all orders as quickly as possible.
