Just a quick note to say I received my cuff earlier than expected, and it is great - and very professionally packaged! :) Thank you! I got it the night before my birthday, so that’s kind of special.

Look how small this blanket used to be! I had just started it and was deciding on the colors, wondering if I had chosen too many.. I think it came out wonderfully. :)

About

It All Started with an Opportunity..

Why did you open an Etsy shop? I first started my Etsy shop back in 2009, because I had just gotten laid-off from my job and I wanted to finally pursue something in a creative field. I figured it was the perfect time to start something new! At first, I had some painting for sell, but eventually transitioned over to crochet, because so many people love what I was creating and advised that I start selling the things I was creating.

Where is your small business located? Currently I work from my home here in Atlanta, GA. I don’t have a studio as my place isn’t big enough for that. So it’s me, the couch, and the tv playing the background. Really though, I take my yarn and hooks with me a lot of places, so the world in my workplace. I am so unashamed to sit in Starbucks and crochet away! Ha ha! Since I have a day job, often times I take my supplies with me, so I can work on a project on my breaks. I’d work at my desk too, if they’d let me!

How do you decide on what supplies to use? The supplies I use depend on the look of the design I’m trying to accomplish. I typically like things to look interesting or have a certain texture. That will determine what type of yarn I will buy and then of course there are the occasional buttons that I like to use for closures.

Who helps you with your Etsy shop? I have really great people in my life who have helped me from time to time when it comes to taking photos of my work. The models you see are friends of mine who were gracious enough to let me boss them around and take their picture a ba-jillion times! More recently, The Boo (my finace) has been super cool about taking the photos that I can’t of myself for modeling. I’m so grateful to everyone that has assisted me along the way. Other than that, it’s pretty much a one woman show around here. If you see, let’s say a scarf that takes a week to make, it’s because I am the only one that makes my products. No machines. Just my two hands and all the love I can muster.

What is unique about your brand? The thing that is unique about my brand is that I typically don’t use patterns, unless requested. I like learning new stitches to achieve a different look, but I like to use my own ideas. I feel like that keeps you working flexing your creativity muscles. I like knowing that someone bought something from me that was purely my design concept and not someone else’s.

What is special about your customer service? I’ve had years and years of customer service training through my day jobs, and I know what it takes to make people happy. I also know what it’s like to be a consumer and have a horrible experience with a brand that doesn’t appreciate your business. I like treating people the way I’d like to be treated and that’s with respect, honesty, friendliness, and fairness..

What inspires your work? Everyday life inspires my work. The need of something is a powerful tool in helping me to create things that no one has seen and/or a new twist on something familiar. I also attempt to make things that I’ve seen in my dreams. Sometimes, they work out and sometimes they don’t, but the way I see it is, why not try it out?

This is a little about me and why I do what I do. Feel free ask me questions at asparkle [!at] asparklesays.com.
