The Primitive Stitcher

My love of needlework began as a child and has continued to be a lifelong journey ~ the only one in my immediate family interested in such things! A pastor's wife taught me to crochet when I was 10. My father bought me a sewing machine about that same age and gave me basic instructions on how to operate it and let me "have at it". Home economic classes and participation in 4-H furthered my sewing education and throughout my high school years I made many of my own clothes. I picked up cross-stitching in my early teen years and to this day, that remains one of my favorite things to do.

It has been within the past 10 years that I discovered the "wonders of wool" ~ wool applique and the primitive art and history of penny rugs. And, just to prove that you can "teach an old dog new tricks", I have continued my education by learning the art of quilt making, needle punch, and now rug hooking.

Offering my hand-stitched items for sale is a way for me to pay some bills and fund my "stash enhancement". After all, a stitcher can never have enough fabric, linen, wool, and threads! However, I am humbled each time you buy an item I have stitched! There is love and appreciation in every single stitch!

I would be remiss, though, in failing to thank the many wonderful needlework designers from whom I obtain designs to stitch and draw inspiration in finishing. Thank you, ladies (and perhaps a few gents!), for sharing your love of the art, your passion, and your beautiful designs with the rest of us!

Thank you for visiting my Etsy store!

Methinks it is a token of healthy and gentle characteristics, when women of high thoughts and accomplishments love to sew; especially as they are never more at home with their own hearts than while so occupied. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Marble Faun, 1859

Stitching relaxes me like nothing else! I especially love cross stitching, penny rugs, wool applique, and small quilting projects. Inspired by early needlework, I enjoy creating pincushions and pinkeeps, little cupboard pillows, and sewing needfuls. I also have a love affair with buttery soft wool which I use to create old-style penny rugs and appliqued mats. Over the years, I've amassed quite a collection of charts, fibers, fabrics, linens, and wool and I love to see what I can create from these simple items.

I would love to share my work with you ~ you can rest assured it is handcrafted by ME in MY HOME with lots of love!! I have no "helpers" or employees. None of my handmade items are sent to a manufacturer or factory to be produced. If you don't see something you like, please check out my sales ~ there may be something I've made in the past that you would like for me to create for you!

Your purchase comes from a non-smoking household. My two dogs and 2 cats do not smoke either.
