About

How I Got Here from There

I grew up in a traditional American household where there were meat and potatoes at every meal and banana cream pie was considered a good breakfast. However, several years ago due to health reasons and because I wanted to live a more harmonious and sustainable lifestyle, I became a vegetarian. Unfortunately, I only knew about three meatless meal ideas.

So, I decided to document my journey into plant based living by writing a food and recipe blog. I'm also an avid gardener with an overabundance of fresh produce. so I'm learning about canning, preserving, and dehydrating foods. I especially like drying fruits and vegetables and making them into powders which I use in cooking. Powders also improved shelf life, saved space in my pantry and the flavors were so much deeper and richer.

I shared some of my favorites with friends and got such a positive response, that I decided to develop a line of fruit and vegetable powders to sell. I had known and shopped on Etsy for years, so an Etsy Shop just seemed a logical way to reach people who would want to buy my products. Elaine in the Kitchen has had a lot of visitors over the last few months, and I'm happy to say that sales have been very good. Please check out my line of fruit and vegetable powders and try some of the recipes I've posted.

I'm a writer and obsessive gardener. My blog is also called ElaineintheKitchen.com and is devoted to plant-based recipes. Garden overabundance led to making and using fruit and vegetable powders, and I began selling them on Etsy in 2015.
