About

Making Daily Life More Beautiful

I opened my shop in 2009 while living near the beach in Florida. After a brief hiatus when I had my son, I'm back with a new body of work I am excited to share.

I grew up in a suburb northwest of Chicago. From an early age I had an interest in making. My interest in art developed while studying painting in high school. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 2005. Upon graduating I completed a residency at Atlantic Pottery Supply in Jacksonville,
FL and in 2008 I completed a residency in Jingdezhen, China at San Bao Ceramic Art Institute. I have exhibited my work internationally. My current work is an attempt to create an object that will create a set of memories. Local flora and fauna inspire my surfaces. I currently live and work in upstate New York.

I am interested in the relationship we have with functional objects. I am astounded at the memories certain a food or smell can evoke. I am convinced that domestic objects hold these memories and that a vessel holds memories passed through generations. As a child we all coveted my great-grandmother’s cookie jar. It is an object so valued, it is used every day. It still sits on my mother’s counter, with a few lovely chips in the glaze. I strive to create an object that is so valued it demands daily use. I want my work to blur the line between fine china and everyday ware.

I develop the surface of my work in layers, influenced by my early beginnings as a painter. These layers create a surface quality that begs to be touched. I create simple forms and dress them the way one might dress themselves, a careful contemplation of ornament. I employ imagery inspired by different elements of daily life; foliage, architecture, textiles, and food. I use different motifs to create patterns that are evocative of these elements. Currently, I am working with linoleum cut stamps created from my original drawings.
