Grab one of the Noble Gasses Fiber Chemistry Sets and cozy up for the end of year holidays with this sampler of six different silk blends-- your wheel or spindle will thank you for the treat!
Mini Fiber Chemistry Sets are available! Only four of each mini set, but there are some large sets still available as well.
Closeup of the braid of Gotland in Spectrum in the shop now-- with a little sample of how the undyed fiber spun up for me. Trying out the Etsy shop updates feature for the first time, too!

About

Fiber for the geek, the nerd, and the scientist in us all

Elemental Fiberworks is here to bring you spinning fiber inspired by the colors of SCIENCE! My goal is to give your next spinning experiment the boost of unique, geeky color you've been looking for.

Always trying something new, whether it be a technique, color combo, project, hobby, or all of the above at the same time! I'm a theater nerd with a degree in Interior Design that has now dedicated all my enthusiasm to the fiber arts. I knit, crochet, spin, dye, and throw color around in every imaginable way.

Knit, crochet, spin, weave, dye-- there doesn't seem to be a fiber arts-related rabbit hole that Mary hasn't fallen down at some point. Inspired by science and nature in the PNW, she's decided to start sharing her experiments with others.

Frequently asked questions

Care instructions

After spinning, wash in lukewarm (not hot) water with an appropriate fiber wash, and finish the yarn in the way you desire. Some dye colors are prone to bleeding, particularly turquoise and some reds. I have rinsed everything thoroughly myself, but very hot water, very salty water, and some kinds of soap/chemicals can exacerbate bleeding.

Wash non-superwash finished items by hand in the same way, and lay flat to dry.

While superwash fibers are supposed to be machine washable, I prefer to hand-wash those as well. NOT ALL OF MY FIBERS ARE SUPERWASH. Please read the individual listings carefully.

I will not be held responsible for accidental felting of spun yarns or finished items.

Allergy awareness

I share my home with cats, and while I take precautions in keeping fiber stored and handled away from them as much as possible, I cannot guarantee zero exposure to cat hair or dander. If you are severely allergic to cats, please search elsewhere-- there are many other small dyers who would appreciate your business!

Custom and personalized orders

At this time I am not accepting custom orders via Etsy. However, if you have a photograph or idea that you think would be fantastic inspiration for a colorway relating to science in some way, feel free to convo me on Etsy or email me at mary@elementalfiberworks.com and if I end up using your inspiration, I will let you know and try to give you first dibs on purchasing the resulting braid, if you like it.

Color accuracy

I try to take my pictures in natural light and with as much accuracy of color as I can manage. However, due to differences in computer monitors, I cannot guarantee 100% color accuracy. If you receive fiber that you think was a poor representation of color and can't live with it, please note my refund and exchange policy and then send me a message.
