Dear Ones,

The work you see here is inspired by a Spiritual Life that honors the Divine Feminine and the Earth, Sun and Moon, celebrating the Lunar Cycle and the Wheel of the Year.

As Life, Pottery is elemental. There is no vessel/ no body without earth, air/ wind, fire/ sun and water/moon.

Tapping in to elemental energies supports my work in the studio. The Lunar Calendar provides the structure that organizes my creative process.

At about the new moon, I start with raw clay, wedging and throwing and trimming and carving - completing the waxing phase with bisque firing when the moon is full.

As the moon wanes, it’s time for quieter work, glazing and hand painting, glaze firing at high temperatures to finish the pieces.

To complete the cycle it’s time to let go- sell some, give some, put some to rest in the graveyard. Then clean the studio and recycle big buckets of clay.

Then, begin again.

Color, shape and design are symbolic as well as functional aspects of Elephant Belly Pottery.

The work draws heavily on Tantric Yoga Traditions and philosophies, and Vipassana and Zen Meditation practices. I bow and give thanks to the lineages and the many honorable teachers who have blessed me with their wisdom.

A note on Mandala:
This sacred geometry invites us to welcome the Whole of Life. It is complete in all aspects, nothing left out. It offers us a visual reminder of symmetry, equanimity, inclusion, ease, movement.

Making mandala is a meditation offered to you with love.

A Note on Noodle Bowls:

Wheel thrown with attention to detail and symmetry and glazed with joy and spontaneity, no two are ever exactly alike. We hope they nourish your heart as you nourish your body.

I believe that sacred objects bring the joy of ritual and beauty to everyday life. And it is through this process and with this intention that I offer my pottery to you.
