About

The Elise Ray Journey: From Baby to Book

Hi, my name is Amanda! In 2009 I held the teeny, tiniest baby I'd ever seen: my three pound first-born at four days old. Going into premature labor was completely unexpected. As any NICU parent has experienced, the next several weeks were a whirlwind of confusion and emotions.

In 2015, I taught myself how to hand stitch books with the vision of an intimate book that specifically tailored to parents enduring the NICU - the NICU Journey Book. Many people expressed interest in purchasing my books for prayer, art and daily journaling, which led to the expansion of Elise Ray and ultimately what my business is today.

In 2017, I introduced the Upcycled Wrap Journal into my product line and the next year added hand embroidery to accent the covers. My passion is using upcycled materials (primarily old denim jeans) to create a new blank canvas for the recipient who will continue the story of an otherwise discarded fabric to tell their own unique story through writing on paper. I love the idea of giving new life to unwanted items and appreciate the parody for what the Lord does in our spirit. I believe journaling gives us an outlet to discover a transformation in our own lives.

Beyond book artistry, I use my business to encourage others to embrace the healing benefits of keeping a journal. I challenge others to unplug and allow themselves to ponder, think and create through pen on paper.

I am often asked, "Who is Elise Ray if you are Amanda Childress?" I named this whole thing after my children, of course. The two preemies who pushed me to be stronger than I ever thought was possible. My tiny heroes.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

I do not take full custom orders, however if you see an item and would like to inquire about a similar item with slight variations (for example different color, pattern or stitch), contact me and I will do my best to create a one-of-a-kind piece that fits your personality. Special requests will take an additional 7-14 days for processing.

Lined Paper

All of my journals should be assumed blank paper unless clearly noted in item description. Due to the nature and additional print cost of lined paper, I have a very small quantity that are lined. Blank journals are filled with various high quality papers and will be described as accurately as possible in item description.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All books will come delivered in a clear nicely packaged bag unless requested otherwise. Gift wrapping is available and will be wrapped in kraft paper and twine.
