Hello 2020! A New Direction for Ella Jenkins Designs

I opened my Etsy shop way back in 2012 as a little side line to my main job as an upholsterer. In the last year things have changed at Ella Jenkins Designs and 2020 sees me moving in a new direction focusing on my bespoke upholstery pieces. So if you are a little confused by reviews for cushions, lavender hearts and all sort of bits and bobs then yes, I used to make such things but no longer do so.

Working in my lovely studio in rural Lincolnshire, Ella Jenkins Designs is now a boutique designer upholstery business, specialising in gently and thoughtfully restoring vintage and antique furniture into the most incredible one of a kind pieces.

Having grown up with a love of antique furniture and a keen interest in interior design, I spent hours in my Dad’s shed learning his skills as a French Polisher and witnessing him breathe new life into pieces of near dilapidated furniture. Whilst my career took me towards the world of legal services, my creative instincts never left, and for over 20 years I nurtured my artistic appetite by studying upholstery at night school. My love of furniture and upholstery skills collided when I was made redundant, marking the start of a fresh business and new career at Ella Jenkins Designs.

I thrive on the opportunity to revive a previously loved piece of furniture. Sustainability is the cornerstone of what I do, and wherever possible I recycle, reuse and reconstruct, offering a fresh lease of life to something which has so much yet to give. My pieces of furniture are made to last - something to be passed down to the next generation.

Inspired by my rural surroundings, my designs feature elements of nature and landscape, crafted using luxurious fabrics and textiles. I would describe my style as timeless, subtle and beautiful, yet with enough quirk and character to be distinctive.

Part of my process is uncovering the story of the piece I am restoring, learning about the previous owner and the life they had. Often, these pieces share with me a glimpse into their past – the chair that their owner sat upon to dress in the morning; the well-loved armchair where many hours were passed enjoying crossword puzzles whilst smoking a pipe. Celebrating the story of each piece is part of my process and to those who most love my business value the history of their piece as much as they treasure the design I have crafted.

MY VALUES

Quality: I pride myself on the high quality of my workmanship. I prefer to take my time and deliberately ensure every piece I work on receives the attention to detail that it deserves.

Sustainability: I work exclusively with high quality pieces which were made to last. I revive them using traditional methods and materials, avoiding harsh chemicals or anything which is damaging to the environment.

Community: I believe in looking after those around me ~ be that my clients, who are extended a warm welcome and treated as a friend throughout their journey with me ~ or fellow small businesses, who I do my best to support.

Creativity: This is the heart of Ella Jenkins Designs as I always infuse my signature style into each piece to create something utterly unique.

Nostalgia: I am endlessly fascinated by the stories behind the pieces I work on, and love to share the story of the life they had before you met.

Shipping
Small orders such as cushions and smaller footstools are normally dispatched via Royal Mail within 4 working days. Please note that weekends and Bank Holidays are not counted as working days.

For larger items such as chairs/furniture then delivery takes a little longer to organise. We will probably already have had a conversation regarding your delivery options prior to you placing your order.

I offer a FREE delivery service within a 30 mile radius of my workshop which is located in the postcode: NG33 4RA. You are also more than welcome to come and collect your item if you wish, but it's best to make an appointment to do so, especially for weekend collections.

If you live further afield then I will need a little time to organise delivery for you. It is important to find a reputable courier who doesn't charge an arm and a leg so your item arrives safely and in one piece. Sometimes this is not as easy as it sounds, so please bear with me. I will be in touch with you during the process to make sure you are happy with the delivery charge and, of course to arrange a convenient time for delivery.

Please note that I only deliver to the UK main land at the moment and am not set up for international delivery.
