Announcement   Welcome to moonlight Creations by Elle Blaisure.

All of the jewelry listed in this store is lovingly handmade by myself with care and attention to detail. No two pieces are alike, each is one of a kind. If there is a item you like but is already sold, I may be able to make another similar to the first, but please note it will not be exactly the same.

I also love supporting my fellow artists, so I try to buy handmade items such as Lamp-Work beads and other findings I can incorporate into my work. In doing so I truly am able to make a special and unique piece of art.

My Store features many different styles, designs and materials. I mainly work in Sterling Silver at the moment. All of my silver work is made using a very old process called Lost Wax Casting. To learn more about this technique please check out my about page or here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost-wax_casting.

A majority of my work is Mixed-Media, which means I use several techniques to create my jewelry. I love using anything from beads, metal, resin and even paper.

Please note while all the jewelry is made in a non-smoke home, it is pet friendly as I own a cat.

To learn more about me and my process please visit my About page at: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ElleBlaisure/about?ref=shopinfo_about_leftnav

I also have a Facebook page and blog. Please check them out to receive updates about my work and previews of upcoming products/listings.

I couldn't have asked for a better set of wings for my sister and me. The photographs don't do them justice, and Elle gave me updates on progress from start to finish. I highly recommend this seller!

About

It began with some inexpensive beads, thread, and wire...

I started making jewelry as a young teen, with just some inexpensive beads, thread and wire. Now in my mid twenties I am a trained metalworker and silversmith but I am a Mixed Media artist at heart. I love combining anything from cast silver, beadwork, wirework and even paper. For many years I was self-taught, learning from books and over the internet. Now I am professionally trained. I have taken college courses in metalsmithing, attended workshops and have apprenticed under a certified Master Silver/Gold Smith.

I love antiques and other findings not generally meant to be used in jewelry, and incorporate them into my designs. I love steampunk, fantasy, boho and eclectic styles and this is reflected in my jewelry. I try not to limit myself to one style.

I use a assortment of techniques to create my art. To cast my silver designs I use a very old technique known as Lost-Wax Casting. I begin by creating a model made out of wax. I either make the model using a mold or carve it by hand. Eventually I suspend the model in a metal flask and surround it with a plaster like substance known as investment. Once this is done I put the flask into a kiln where the wax is destroyed and leaves a negative cavity. Liquid metal is shot into the negative space using a torch and centrifuge. I submerge the flask in water, breaking away the investment revealing the cast model. I finish the piece using a flex shaft (a type of rotary tool). Once the cast piece is cleaned up, I polish it to a high shine. After that it's is pretty much all done :D.

Lost-Wax Casting is a long process but highly rewarding. If you are interested in learning more about this fascinating process and its history please visit it's Wikipedia page at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost-wax_casting.
