Announcement   Elstwhen is, A time of man and magic mingled.
These unique creations are inspired by this era,
featuring hand crafted Krakens & Sculptural Composite Art, as well as
One of a kind Leather designs.

Krakens of Elstwhen, are individually sculpted onto unique glassware, some vintage, some new. Guard your favorite drink in style with
a treasure to last the ages, as Kraken are known to do.

Elf Nouveau, Phyto-filigree designs and crystals.

My glassware's are all hand picked personally by me. Some are vintage because I love vintage glass, some are new out of the box straight from the manufacturer or glass blower. The exception to this is when I do custom orders on glassware sent to my by the client. All stock is limited.

About

The Krakens of Elstwhen

In 2010 I started sculpting Krakens on glassware and writing Kraken Lore. I opened The Elstwhen Shoppe online in 2011.

The first Octopus I met was while diving off Maui.
It was a Hawaiian Day Octopus, and it was quite the experience, he was a bit aggressive, but omg beautiful, and large, did I mention he was large! lol. It was love at first site.

I have all ways loved glass, how it catches and bends light,
that it is a solid and a liquid, it melts, and is ever recyclable.
Octopus and glass have much in common, from light bending abilities to solid liquid forms and beautiful fluidity,
it seamed natural to put them together.
They are a combination of my love for the sea, history, lore and of course Octopus.

The Krakens are sculpted individually, using a stone hard material that is firmly attached to the glassware it is durable and permanent. After the sculpting, tooling and sanding, They are hand-painted, gloss finished and photographed.
Afterwards they are cleaned and sanitized, corked, packaged, and ready for shipping.
These sculptures are made to last for generations.

Each one takes up to 2 weeks to complete, and no two are the same.

I spend much, thinking about the deep while I work on my sculptures and am always looking for inspiration and ideas for the story's and lore that I write about them.

Kraken Lore:
In a time when the gods still walked the earth a child was born to Tethys and Poseidon.
This was the Kraken - guardian of all the world's oceans and terror to all who traveled upon them.

The Kraken was once mated to his half-sister after Zeus' anger had changed her
into a monster in the form of a whirlpool with a gaping maw of teeth.
Her name was Kharybdis, a beautiful naiad and daughter of Gæa and Poseidon.

Kharybdis would be forever carrying the Kraken`s offspring within her.
She releases her brood at the height of each full moon.
Casting them forth onto all the world's oceans and giving rise to the legends and lore among early mariners.

These mysterious hatch lings inhabit the deep oceanic trenches and perpetually turbulent waters of the world.
Thankfully, they are born without the ability to breed and take centuries to mature into smaller versions of their father.
On the longest of years, Mother Kharbydis has daughters (who take after her).

The legends tell us that they are fearsome and appear with little warning out of the deep,
voraciously devouring the most seaworthy vessels with ease. Occasionally, leaving a rare survivor to tell the tale.

I would like to thank my patrons, without their support I would not be able to create the artwork I so dearly love.

A quick note about priceing:
Elstwhen pricing of artwork.
* Add of the cost of art supplies.
* Add the hours spent on artwork.
Materials + labor = price.

I am a production artist since 1996. I keep track of my hours and expenses for each sculpture I make.
I use professional and techniques and materials in the production of my art, it is made to last. I do not use polymer clay.

Elstwhen supports, Art in Schools by contributing to The Eight Arms of Inspiration Project and Marine Conservation Projects via The Seattle Aquarium.
