This landscape is one of several works of art I have purchased from Emily. She has a sure hand, and a beautifully expressive way of conveying a scene using light and shadow and color. This snowy landscape reminds me of places I have lived and conjures serene and nostalgic emotions of long-ago memories. Her overseas shipment to me was handled as quickly as possible, considering that Ireland was dealing with severe winter weather at the time, and she was thoughtful enough to keep me informed of its progress along the way. I highly recommend Emily! A lovely artist in every way!

About

Minimalism, Nature and Imagination

I love the way that painting is a journey of discovery. There are some subjects I like to dwell on- a particular shade of red or a certain shape of feather, for example, but I am frequently inspired by new places too.

Paul Gardner wrote:
" A painting is never finished. It simply stops in interesting places."

For me, the joy of painting is in going to these interesting places, in experimenting, and in the process arriving at something worthwhile.

Etsy has given me a chance to share some paintings and drawings that I feel have been worthwhile. I like to experiment with colours and subject matter, and yet there are some repeated forms in my work that constantly draw me back- the veins on a leaf of the structure of a tree, for example.

I think we all have stresses and sadness in our lives, and we all need to be reminded of beauty and joy. For me, the reason Art is so important, is because it is a place where we can leave the struggles of everyday behind, and think of something more sublime. I have read accounts of patients in hospitals needing fewer pain medications when they have a beautiful work of art in the room. I don't need proof that Art makes life better, but if I did, that would be it, for me.
