Wabi-sabi is a Japanese concept honoring the art of imperfection. It's about appreciation for the beauty in imperfection, the natural wonder in authenticity. These bars of soap are the happy accidents of our craft.
Our new soap is naked! No frills, no color. Just good clean soap scented with essential oils. Available in Lavender, Lemongrass, or Tea Tree scents.

About

Nature-inspired artisan soaps that are lovely to look at, sensational to smell, and luxurious to use

Every day we are exposed to an array of harmful chemicals and hidden additives in the foods that we eat, the products that we use to clean our homes, and in our skincare routine. Emily’s Handmade Soaps creates nature-inspired soaps using sustainable, cruelty-free ingredients to responsibly enhance your daily bathing ritual. We use oils, butters, earth clays, and other botanical ingredients to create nurturing skin care that you can feel good about bringing into your home.

Each of Emily’s Handmade Soaps products are vegan-focused and artfully handcrafted with pronounceable ingredients that are intentionally formulated to bring you the very best that nature has to offer. Here are what some of our customers have to say:

“Opening the box was a sensory explosion, in the best kind of way! Each soap has it's own delightfully distinct aroma, but the smorgasbord of them combined is an experience in itself! The bars themselves look amazing and I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few people use them solely as decorative pieces (which smell really good!). Great job, Emily!” – Mark D., Toledo, OR

“I ordered 12 bars and they smell great. I ordered samples awhile back and they lather great. I only use handmade soap and I'm very picky, but hers have been wonderful so far.” – Tiffany P., Strongsville, OH

I’m Emily, owner and soap maker at Emily’s Handmade Soaps, located in the coastal gem of Des Moines, Washington. The inspiration to turn my hobby into a business started while I was enjoying my time as a stay at home mom to the two most amazing kids in the world (alright, I may be a little bit biased!). My son has always had sensitive skin, so searching for a product that would ease some of his discomfort became quite a task. When I took up soap making I was relieved and pleased that I could create soaps that were free of detergents and needless chemicals that could benefit those that I love the most.

With hundreds of batches of soap under my belt, I have found so many ways to add artistic touches and natural elements to my soaps, like:

• Natural colorants (i.e. indigo, cocoa powder, and clays)
• Essential oils and high-quality, phthalate-free fragrances
• Alternative liquids (i.e. aloe juice, coconut milk, & almond milk)
• Botanical additives (i.e. oatmeal, raspberry seeds & coffee grounds)

While the purpose of soap is to clean you, I make soaps inspired by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest that are lovely to look at, sensational to smell, and luxurious to use. Experience some of nature’s splendor through my line of Essential Oil Soaps and complement your bathing experience with my Hand & Body Lotion.

Welcome! I'm a stay at home mom of two wonderful kidlets, and the wife of one equally wonderful husband. Making soap makes me feel like a chemist, a chef, and an artist at the same time. Each variety of soap is made in small batches, with the utmost consideration given to the feel of the lather, the visual and olfactory appeal of the soap, and benefits to the skin. I think you'll enjoy Emily's Handmade Soaps as much as my family and I do.

Additional policies and FAQs
I strive to use primarily natural, cruelty-free products in my soaps. All of my scented soaps use either essential oils or high-quality fragrance (phthalate free) oils from reputable vendors. Most of my soaps are vegan, however a few use honey (Oatmeal Honey Soap), and my lotion bars contain beeswax.

Palm oil is a somewhat hot button issue, so I make sure to purchase palm oil only from reputable vendors who source their palm oil from participants in the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).

Generally speaking, I use mica and iron oxides, ultramarines, and titanium dioxide to color my soaps (along with other natural colorants like coffee, calendula petals, etc.). Iron oxides are naturally occurring, however, when found in nature they contain impurities that would be dangerous. Oxides used in cosmetics are "nature identical" which means it has the same structural components, but is created in a lab to ensure the product is free of impurities. Because the term "all natural" is not regulated, it is up to each individual to determine what they consider natural. Oxides are generally recognized as being a natural product.

Every once in a while I like to experiment with colorants that might not be considered "all natural." I always include full ingredient lists on both the item description and on the soap packaging. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
