Working with encaustic has lead me to create intimate, small scale works in addition to my larger paintings and mixed media work which were the focus of my practice for years. I'm happy to share these little works here.

Encaustic is a form of painting that incorporates hot wax. It was developed by the ancient Greeks. Enkaustikos is Greek for "burning in". The Greeks used hot beeswax to seal their wooden ships. Over time, they added pigment and began making paintings on the vessels. Eventually, they used the process to make paintings on wood panels.

I make my own encaustic from purified beeswax and damar resin. I use high quality oil paint and dry pigments to color the wax mixture. Most of my encaustics are painted on archival museum board that has been secured to masonite to keep it rigid.
