About

Carol Shuster Swartz....artist & owner, Equus Art Etsy Shop

My original art works reflect glimpses of life around horses, whether at a horse show or around the barn or pasture. My images have graced the covers of a number of publications including “Chronicle of the Horse”, the IHSA Nationals, Lorenzo Driving Competition and New York State Fair Horse Show programs. Specializing in honoring beloved horses and dogs by creating their portraits, I try to capture individual personality as well as color and conformation. Acquiring input from and incorporating my clients' ideas is a mainstay of creating a unique portrait.

I enjoy gracing utilitarian objects (such as mugs, boxes, photo albums and frames, furniture....anything that sits still long enough!) with equestrian-themed images. Creating one-of-a-kind giftware enables horse & dog lovers to own something special that cannot be found elsewhere! Many of these items have been custom-created as show or banquet awards, judges' gifts, even silent auction items or other fund-raising collectibles.

I have always drawn and painted.....About as soon as I could talk, my love of horses was made known. Drawing equines was the alternative expression of that love until actual horse ownership in adulthood, when I acquired the first of several Quarter Horses and Appaloosas.

Genetics may have played a role in my passion for horses. My mother's grandfather was a blacksmith and his son (my granddad) owned a dray business before joining a fire department that still utilized horses. My dad's grandfather also had a dray business (the original teamsters!!) and loved his teams for farming ....never learning to drive a tractor or car.

After receiving Bachelors degrees in Fine Art and Art Education from Ohio State University, my career path followed a management track in the restaurant industry. Returning to art full time in 1989, I can now be found exhibiting art at horse shows, dog shows, and related events with my mobile gallery/studio or teaching drawing and painting from my Buffalo, New York - based studio.
