father and son mountain and river inspired glass art

Rob Enggist (b. Luzern Switzerland) has been working with stained glass for over 40 years, beginning with glass renditions of modernist paintings (Miro, Matisse, Picasso, Klee), evolving a self styled abstraction recalling desert-scapes, Swiss Alps, Idols in descent, figures, and cosmic seeds, later working with gems and stones found in New Mexico making pendants, mobiles, glass feathers and angels. In the spring of 2017, in the quiet riverside studio by the Esopus in Phoenicia, NY, He taught his son, Neil, the way of the glass artist, envisioning the composition, choosing the color, cutting the shape, wrapping the edges, soldering, and finishing, and by the end of the year, the two were collaborating on a small body of work, culminating with the Angel of Becoming. Neil had just gotten his MFA from SFAI, and spent 10 years traveling throughout Europe, India, and America, painting, showing, and writing poetry. Esopus Glass, named after the River by which they began their glass tandem, displays the colors, forms, visions and memories of their experience as 2 generations of artists at home and on the road.
