Announcement   Welcome to my shop, filled with designs I create with sea glass, sea pottery, shells, and beach stones.

Many of the items used by the people living near beaches ended up in the ocean, where they have been tumbled and smoothed by the water over the years. My collection features some beautiful colors and wonderfully worn pieces of genuine sea glass, sea pottery, and sea marbles created from these cast-off items. No two pieces of sea glass are alike, as they came from different sources and have been washed by the tides until they became frosted with tumble marks.

Today, these surf-tumbled, authentic pieces of beach glass and pottery have a second life as sea glass art originals, prints, cards, stickers, note pads, handmade jewelry pieces, and more.

Please feel free to ask me about anything in my store, and let me know if you would like a special design or message written in sea glass. Please see more on my website at http://www.etchedbythesea.com.

About

Etched by the Sea is an eco-friendly and sustainable business.

It all starts with the sea glass we find on beaches, which is old trash that was transformed by the waves and upcycled into jewelry and art. We pick up garbage on the beaches every time we beachcomb to help leave the beach better than we found it. We are a 100% solar-powered home-based business as all of our electricity comes from the solar array on our roof. In addition, we recycle all paper, metal, and plastic. Our gardens are planted with native plants, we replaced our traditional lawn with drought-tolerant UC Verde Buffalo Grass, and we compost all our food scraps. If you receive a package with packing peanuts or packaging air bags, those are recycled from packages we received containing the supplies we use to make our products. It’s all part of our commitment to the planet and our environment.

How can I keep up with the latest Etched by the Sea sea glass mosaics and designs?

I post all my new mosaics and sea glass art on my website at http://www.etchedbythesea.com and share photos on Instagram @etchedbythesea and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/etchedbythesea/. I try to keep everything that I have made updated with the latest information here in the Etched by the Sea Shop.

Where do you find your sea glass?

I find most of my sea glass, sea pottery, sea shells, beach stones, and coral on the beaches in California, Santa Cruz County, Monterey County, and Mendocino County. I also have a some pieces from Hawaii, the Great Lakes, and Scotland, but all of the items in my shop were made with sea glass found by me, my family members, friends, or trusted sea glass sellers. These are all authentic, sea-tumbled pieces of beach glass, frosted with tumble marks, etched by the sea.

What is sea glass?

Monterey Bay beaches have a colorful history, featuring pirates, whaling outposts, and bustling resort towns. Many of the items used by the people living here—bottles, plates, jugs, and metal items—ended up in the ocean, where they have been tumbled and smoothed by the water over the years. No two pieces of sea glass or sea pottery are alike, as they came from different sources and have been washed by the tides until they became frosted and smooth. I use only real, genuine sea glass in my jewelry and accessories, glass that has only be shaped and etched by the waves.

How do I care for sea glass jewelry?

Even though the sea glass in your jewelry probably spent dozens of years rolling around in the waves, it still requires gentle care to stay looking its best. It is real glass and can break, chip, or shatter under pressure. Briefly soak your sea glass jewelry with a gentle dishwashing liquid to help keep its frosty appearance, or rub in a drop of baby oil if you want a glowing, smooth finish. Polish your silver items with a soft cloth and silver polish if they tarnish. Be sure to dry everything thoroughly before wearing or storing.

What if something breaks?

Most sea glass jewelry is delicate, and though I have taken care to make things able to stand up to normal wear and tear, sometimes things can break. If the sea glass breaks, there's no way for me to repair it, but if a setting, ring, clasp, or wire breaks, please message me so I can work with you to fix it. Repairs are free of charge within the first 30 days after purchase, and are subject to a fee for time and materials thereafter. Shipping charges will be billed to the buyer upon completion of the repairs. My goal is to make sure you are happy with every item you purchase in the Etched by the Sea Shop!

Colors

Please note that the actual colors of sea glass and prints may differ slightly fro what you see on your computer, phone, or tablet. Please let me know if you would like me to provide more information on any colors or sizes.

Wholesale availability

Many of the items in my shop are available for wholesale. Please contact me about any items you are interested in carrying in your shop! Thanks!
