Milt and Evelyn Haertig's Devotion to Purse History
Evelyn’s specialty was antique combs and purses, but she also collected many other interesting antiques. She devoted over 30 years to researching the origin, history, preservation, restoration and collecting antique purses. Her studies resulted in the publication of three exquisite books which are offered for sale on this Etsy shop.
Milton, her husband, worked closely with Evelyn and did most of the photography for the books. He spent countless hours in the darkroom photographing the examples they had collected for the books.
With their books, studies and presentations, they greatly advanced the importance, appreciation and ART of the antique purse. Their books continue to be used by virtually every major museum research center world wide.
Milton passed away in 2002 and Evelyn in 2007.

Did Evelyn restore this purse?
Evelyn passed away in 2007. Her daughters found many boxes of purses and other antique items in the estate. We are not completely sure who might have restored some of the purses. They were all in her personal collection and used in the research of her books. She most certainly restored many, many purses as best she could or sent them out to be restored.
How old is this purse? Where did it come from?
The best way to answer these questions is to read Evelyn's books. She spent 7 years researching each book, traveling to many museums and factories in the USA and Europe to search for answers. Her books are still considered the ultimate guides for antique purse collecting and restoration. They are in the library of every serious purse collector and many museums.
