About

Extrudergirl

I was born in 1964 into an American-Italian artistic household. My father is a well known artist in Northern NJ with a strong background in painting, sculpting and wood craft. My mother is a self-taught singer who developed her own singing troupe that toured Northern NJ from the 1980's through the 1990’s. From an early age, I viewed myself as a writer, having graduated from Montclair State University with a B.A. in English in 1998.

In 1993 I moved to Florida to write for a local paper. After working for the corporate world for many years, I changed my career to become an Education Coordinator for a clay manufacturing company, Axner Pottery, in Oviedo, Florida. To better understand ceramic art teacher’s educational needs and concerns, I immersed myself in studying clay and glazes, then writing, developing and designing new ceramic lesson plans for art teachers teaching K-12.

In 2000, I began to sell the products I was creating and producing at local Farmer’s Markets under my studio name Extrudergirl. Since then my ceramic items have been influenced and inspired by locally harvested foods as well as causes such as Breast Cancer, Autism, Brittany Hope Foundation, and Endangered Species.

Extruding clay became my choice of clay craft, but I have been able to explore all mediums of clay and glazing ranging from hand-building and throwing to oxidation to reduction glaze firings.

I am a member of NCECA, FAEA, and American Potters. I am currently selling on Etsy, Design Style Guide, Fine Arts, and Art Fire. I have been published in the following for ceramic related articles Helium, Clay in the Classroom, and featured on the cover of Fired Arts & Crafts Magazine.
