About

Fabrics That Go!

ABOUT CLAIRE!
Hello Everyone! My name is Claire Grunstein and I am the co-owner of Fabrics That Go! I was born on July 12, 1927 in Queens, New York to immigrants from Poland and Russia. My work ethic was established early as a child and working to achieve my goals became very important. After meeting my late husband, Herman, and dating for two years, we married in 1954. We raised two sons together: Robert, who is now a co-owner of the store, and Gary.

Herman and I moved to Tucson, AZ in 1978 in order to retire from the business, but decided after a month that the retired life wasn't for us! At 90 years old, I still work 30 hour weeks at the store on Campbell Avenue in Tucson. Our 13,000 square-foot store has over 10,000 bolts of fabrics from around the world. Along with many fabric choices, I have collected and currently sell thousands of antique buttons.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN!
The business originated in 1945 in New Jersey. When Herman returned from World War II, where he served in the Air Force, he agreed to help his father for a few days. Unbeknownst to him, it would turn into a 71-year career. The family owned three stores in Paterson, Bloomingdale, and Pompton Lakes. Twelve years after the business originally started, Claire married Herman and they worked alongside each other for about 60 years.
