I was outside work on my cig break when a couple walked by. The woman suddenly went, “Oh look, babe!” Her guy glanced up from his phone, looked at the spray painted Cybertruck, and muttered, “That sucks.” “No,” she said, pointing directly at me, “look.” They both stared. I said“What?” They immediately looked embarrassed and speed walked away. I finished my smoke, went back inside, and told a coworker what happened. She took one look at me and said, “Well… you look crazy.” “WTF?” I replied. She snapped the photo and showed me. I had to admit I looked confused and a little pissed. She laughed her ass off. She is cool, but she doesn’t understand fashion. Yeah, I’ve got main character drip for sure… but all I wanted was a quiet smoke break. It’s hard being a wizard in a world full of mortals who won’t stop pointing.

The FM Shingle origin story

Fugazi was one of my favorite bands growing up, and Fugazi never sold T-Shirts. They were purely about the music and that made a huge impression on me. Fast forward a bunch of years and my band Lightning Bolt took up the mantle, no T-shirts . We weren't really dogmatic about it, i just wasn't interested. But then a decade or more into the band someone really pushed me to make a t-shirt for a tour. and so i did. and we sold a bunch, and it helped cover tour expenses. So we started doing tour shirts. Little by little i realized hey wait i wear band shirts, i draw all the time, and we're not Fugazi, so why not design Lightning Bolt band shirts? So i did, and now i've gone crazy and can't stop making shirts. And print on demand makes it happen faster and more affordably than ever because there's no big up front expense to make a run of shirts, so here we are!
