Caro was awesome to work with and her work is outstanding. She kept me continuously updated regarding the progress of my pieces and promptly replied to emails. The fixtures are beautifully crafted and are actually very elegant. I can't say enough about this amazing artist!

About

Revindicating Refuse, Transcending Function

'The CONNECT Series' arose from seeing pots and pans hung from a bicycle rim in the kitchen of a run-down, makeshift warehouse that I used to live in. It occurred to me to make a bike mobile but I mistakenly called it a chandelier. I made the mobile and dissatisfied with the result it was this *semantic mistake* that led to the creation of the first proper chandelier.

The milieu that existed in and around that warehouse embodied the Do It Yourself spirit and this series materialized as a result of living in that intentional community. I lived with 11 other people there and we had volunteer-run, donation based, shows, movie screenings, and even an underground cafe. During any given event you'd see bikes upon bikes stacked upon each other locked to whatever post was near. One of my housemates taught himself how to be a bike mechanic and so there was always a surplus of bike parts around the warehouse. My good friends ran the Derailer bike collective - a free, community bike shop that I'd get parts from and it was in this complete immersion in bike culture that the idea flourished.

The DIY ethos empowers folks by demystifying the seeming complexity of everyday objects, skills, or tasks. I had no idea how to make what I envisioned but I knew I'd figure it out. I improvised using an unlikely material to create a traditional form and as it turned out the bike parts unexpectedly pieced themselves together to form the most beautiful, delicate, elegant, and simultaneously industrial chandelier. After a few years of practice I've perfected the form and can now create a nearly perfect object (UL Approved* per request) out of a completely imperfect material.

'The CONNECT Series' objects the ideas that function is fixed or immutable and that an object needs to be thrown away once it cannot serve its original purpose. If we are resourceful with the supplies and resources we have and consider alternative uses for existing materials we avoid creating more waste. Planned obsolescence is simply irresponsible and unsustainable. These handmade, one-of-a-kind chandeliers not only have a timeless aesthetic but a perduring form.

Hello art collector! Here's a little information you'll find useful -

I hand craft each chandelier upon order. The chandeliers shown are models that I can replicate, however, please note that due to the recycled nature of this item, no two can be exactly identical, ultimately making them one-of-a-kind.

You may request a custom chandelier whereby providing me with your desired dimensions and/or design components you'd like incorporated, I can create a new, unique design for you. Please note there is an additional 15% fee for custom work.

All prices are in US Dollars, Price is based on size and complexity of form

I take 50% upfront to secure your place in the queue and to establish a mutually trusting relationship - It is a contract to dedicate my time and energy to create my carefully crafted product and for you to be committed to the purchase. I take the remaining 50% + shipping costs upon shipment.

Production time may vary from 1-8 weeks per chandelier, Lead times depend upon my availability.

Tax is not included in the listed price.
Shipping
Shipping costs (custom crate and packing materials) are not included and must be covered by you, the client. There is a great deal of hard work that goes into each and every piece and to be fair to myself the listed price of each chandelier is the price to compensate me for the chandelier alone.

I usually use a freight shipping service that is very economical. Shipping costs depends on the size and weigh of the item.
Additional policies and FAQs
The bike chains have no finish - each chain is degreased by hand and left in its original state. They can be intentionally rusted if this is arranged.

The rims can be painted black per request

Light bulbs are not included unless otherwise arranged.

For 2+ chandeliers I give a 5% discount, for 4+ I give a 10% discount, for 8+ I give a 15% discount.

For consignments I require a 60/40 agreement.

There is an additional 15% fee for custom work.

Although each individual fixture is not UL Approved, I have had 8 fixtures (Models C13, C18, and C4) UL Approved. To be fairly compensated for my time and labor the cost of UL Approval is not included in the asking price for any of the CONNECT sculptures and therefor must be covered by you, the client.

I guarantee that each piece I make is crafted with the utmost care to detail and safety. It is of the utmost importance to me that every artwork I send out to the world is of the best quality and appearance and I guarantee that until the moment it is in my sight I am sending to you my best work.
