About

Faded Rose Factory - Bringing You Beautiful Memories

My Faded Rose Boudoir Dolls take hours of sculpting, dying and stitching to complete. I try to incorporate vintage - antique fabrics materials & accessories into the dress designs to give each Faded Rose Boudoir Doll a genuine touch of their times. I also use colors and fabrics appropriate to the Art Nouveau & Art Deco period.

I love the challenge of attempting to bring back to life the haunting beauty of the original Boudoir doll. Each Rose is hand created, painted, and dressed to capture the poignant beauty and nostalgic essence that first appeared in these twilight time sisters of long ago.

Since each Faded Rose Boudoir Doll is a hand sculpted work of art they are each unique and one of a kind (OOAK).

❥ History Behind the Boudoir Doll ------
These faded ladies first appeared prior to 1920, and were known by many names, pillow dolls, bed dolls and the Boudoir doll. They were extraordinarily popular with their delicate composition features, mohair or real hair, and rich gowns of satin and lace. Many dolls came in hats fashioned with soft veils, tiny roses, and fragile feathers.

Despite the name “Boudoir Doll” these wistful ladies might be found lounging in any room of the house. Many a dark parlor hosted one of these satin and lace attired beauties, lounging wistfully on a delicate velvet guest chair or perhaps tied in whimsical knots on the shelf of a bookcase or what not cabinet. Boudoir dolls were not exclusive to the boudoir. Nor were they ever dolls in the conventional sense of the word. They were and are adornments. Such unique and beautiful creations were bound to create controversy, and surely did. They were labeled scandalous, decadent and provocative.

....They enjoyed a huge popularity right up until the crash of 1929. The depression which followed caused many of these factories to close. Yet the decline of the Boudoir Doll didn’t happen overnight, their decline was gradual over the next few decades until the doll bore little resemblance to the wistful beauties of the past.
