From a young age, I've always appreciated the art of handcrafting. It comes from watching my mother throughout my life take on new projects from sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting, to painting on wood, slate and walls. She cooks, she bakes, she rughooks...suffice it to say, she’s pretty darn crafty and she shared that love of creating with me.

I started Faery Tree Creations in 2006, making fabric fairies, rope bowls and felted animals. It was more of a hobby at the time, doing something that I enjoyed and making a little extra money for Christmas. I signed up for a few craft fairs and created my shop on Etsy, but I never really put my full effort into it as a business.

In 2013, I stumbled into the world of Waldorf, not because I had children, but because of Pinterest. I had come across Waldorf inspired crafts and I fell in love with the natural simplicity of them. Basic wooden and felt toys that encourage children’s imaginations, rather than plastic, noisy toys that drive parents crazy. The more I researched these toys, the more I started reading about Steiner’s philosophy and the principles of Waldorf education. I started reading about the differences between Waldorf and Montessori, and both just resonated with me, making me realize that when I did have children, raising them in a flexible Waldorf/Montessori home was the way to go. As the stepmother of an 8 year old, I try to encorporate some of the Waldorf teachings into our home; encouraging the exploration of nature, imaginative play, and the understanding of seasons through our nature table.

In February of 2016, with the support of my unbelievably awesome and incredibly adorable husband, I really put my mind and creative energy into resurrecting Faery Tree Creations, not just as a hobby but as a business, with the intent of crafting beautiful wooden, Waldorf inspired toys for children...and adults who have fallen in love with them, as well, because I firmly believe that you’re never too old to appreciate beautiful toys!
