The construction is pretty crude, and the back side of the fan appears to have pet hair and debris stuck to the back, the blades are dirty, and the leather literally looks like someone cut it with a pair of scissors and hot glued it to fan blades.. leather loose ends... yikes... lthe fan blades don't close without really pushing them in place.. I hate to leave bad reviews, bad its just not great quality. I wouldn't buy again.

I am truly sorry that Mr Wilson is displeased. We have not received any complaints on the fans before now...perhaps the one he received was a fluke. I appreciate the comment 'the fan blades don't close without really pushing them in place'. The item description states "Leather fans do not close with a flick of the wrist" so now I know I need to clarify this statement on the item page. The leather is cut using a rotary blade with scissors used only on the two top corners. The glue is a leather contact cement (not hot melt) and some does tend to leach beyond the edges of the staves on the back of the fan. When finished, I condition the leather and then brush with a horsehair brush and this may have left some stray hairs that I overlooked. I have offered Mr Wilson a replacement or refund.

I'm pretty new to bootblacking, but this product was easy to figure out and use. The best tip I have is to use the heated spoon for smoothing it out. I've used it to patch 2 pairs of boots so far and they look better than I've ever seen them. My ex-Army picky-about-his-boots Sir is very pleased with the results. Thank you!
