About

Natural wood products handmade from locally salvaged timbers.

Let's just say I wasn't totally on board when my husband decided to buy a sawmill. After all, we live in the middle of corn and soybean country and I wasn't sure there would be enough local timber readily available. Well, I was wrong. As soon as the sawmill arrived we had local contractors calling for us to haul away the logs from small timbers they were clearing.

From the very beginning I loved sawing wood. I loved the smell of fresh cut wood and I loved seeing the woodgrain as the log was "opened up." My problem was that I thought too much good stuff was going into the scrap wood pile and I kept picking out interesting pieces and piling them off to the side for something??? But then my little piles of wood kept disappearing while I was away at my day job. Eventually I bought a carving knife and started making spoons out of my little piles of timbers.

When the economy went south in 2009 the commercial log buyers completely disappeared for awhile and we were able to salvage some awesome Black Walnut, Wild Cherry, and Maple hardwood logs which we milled and stacked in the barn to cure. Fast forward 2-1/2 years (air drying hardwoods in humid Iowa takes time) and I was in the board business. I needed tools...power tools! I needed a place to sell...Etsy! And, the big one...I needed to develop some woodworking skills!!!

Done. Done. And...I will forever be working on that last one (sigh). But the beautiful woodwork in my 100 year old farm house provides me with inspiration to ito keep working on my craft (how ever did they do that without power tools!!). When I need creative inspiration I go sort through my stacks of boards and see which one says "take me next."

That's my FarmTimbers story so far. Raw materials are local timbers logged out and milled by husband, Terry. Final products are all handmade by me. Please take a look around my shop and go ahead and purchase something if you must.

Thanks for stopping by to visit.

If you want to rescue logs, it's good to know a guy with a chainsaw, a truck, and a trailer. This guy does the heavy lifting of logging, sawmilling, and making space/racking to cure wood. Also a good guy for fixing broken stuff. a.k.a. Husband

I have always loved plants & trees. But I am an accidental woodworker, drawn in by interesting timbers in our scrap wood pile and by the desire to rescue nature's amazing creations and to repurpose them. Check out the results in my Etsy shop.
