About

Like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz

You know that great line from the end of The Wizard of Oz where Dorothy looks up at her friends and family and says something to the effect about “looking for her heart’s desire she wouldn’t look any further than her own backyard.” Well, my life is sort of like that…except I discovered I didn’t have the right backyard. So, after a 25+ year high pressure career, my husband and I chucked it all, sold the house in the big city and bought the farm…really…we bought a farm.

I shared a love of stamp collecting with my father. We could often be found pouring over scraps of paper leafing through catalogues and I’m sure to the uninitiated we must have looked like spies plotting our next great adventure. When he passed away it fell to me (means my sisters dump this on me) to dispose of Dad’s large collection of stamps, covers postcards etc.

I quickly found that it rekindled my interest in geography and history, two classes I should clearly have attended more often in high school. I have acquired some postcards of my own along the way and this is how I came to Etsy to share these beautiful vintage cards with others. (those are in my other shop TheOldBarnDoor)

Our farm was established in the late 1800s and still to this day the ground heaves up rusty treasures, old bottles, bits of ceramic and glass. I have learned to respect and repurpose the past rather than tossing things away and buying the latest and greatest next thing. I acquire items from farm auctions and estate sales locally in my area and give them new purpose, new life or find them new forever homes.

I am truly vintage - I only just stepped up from a dial up connection and I don't own a cell phone.

I believe in animal rescue, laughing often and loudly, eating local and healthy, following your heart and making your dreams a reality.

Shipping
I will select the most cost effective shipping method possible. Rates from Canada are, unfortunately, somewhat higher than those in the US. I strive to ship the next business day after payment but it may be up to 3 business days if things on the farm are really busy (lambing season, hay season etc) or weather prevents me from getting out to the post office. I will keep you up to date on you actual shipping date.

I will gladly combine items purchased to reduce the overall postage cost. I pack items as securely and responsibly as possible therefore I cannot be responsible for damage caused during the shipping process.

In the unlikely event you need to return an item to me, after we agree to do so, the cost of the return shipping to me is the buyer's responsibility and not refundable.

CUSTOMS:
International customers are responsible for duties, taxes and customs fees assessed by your country. Customs policies vary widely from country to country; sellers have no control over these charges. You may contact your local customs office for more information.

When filling out customs forms, Canadian, U.S. and International government regulations prohibit sellers from marking merchandise values lower than the selling price, as well as marking items as gifts. Unfortunately, I have no control over the time it may take for your item to go through Customs before it arrives to you.
Additional policies and FAQs
If you fall in love with something and you think I have it priced a bit out of your range, please contact me. I can't promise to lower the price but I am open to finding homes for these items at a reasonable price for both of us.
Etsy is my hobby but it helps pay the bills.
