Beauty has a way of capturing us. When I moved to Houston, TX last year and moved into my new home there was nothing that took longer to adorn, than the four walls of every room. I was determined not to buy any décor unless it was something I absolutely loved and would be satisfied with looking at time and time again. The determination was a wonderful thing, except my walls remained bare for quite some time.

In my pursuit I wanted to find wall art that was casual and modern - subtle hues that complement my existing décor yet have meaning in and of themselves. After many a vain pursuit I started to sketch designs in my free time, often fueled with excitement to bring to life my own favorite Verses and Duas in Arabic calligraphy. My hope in every design was to connect people to the Words of our Creator and His infinite Mercy. As I created my designs and placed them on my once bare walls, the room was uplifted with comfort and filled with tranquility. There was a new elegance and meaning ever present and unparalleled with anything I had seen before.

Many of my designs are emotionally uplifting and in spite of the hundreds of times viewing them during the design process, I never tire of them. Something in my heart moves every time I glance at a design. The excitement of framing or ‘holding still’ a favorite saying or prayer using vibrant color combinations and typography was priceless.
As I hung designs on the walls of home, friends and family asked me to show them my collection which at that time was a very limited set. Some asked for designs featuring duas for them to share as a gift for their loved ones while others asked for frames for their own homes. Many of my designs incorporate either verses of the Qur’an, Popular Hadith and Duas, while others are simple reminders of our short time in this life. The requests proved to me that my art was filling not only an individual need when I first moved into my home, but a need we all have… a need for more meaningful décor that gives us tranquility…that uplifts the spirit.
