fashgal ~ threads of my beginnings
Fabric has always been my first love. Always.
That is where it all starts for me... I am a saver of scraps, remnants and small sample cuts. Bits and pieces... the long forgotten roll at the bottom of the bin, the back room finds are transformed into favored, unique, limited edition, scarves, neck ruffs and kerchiefs. Each piece is hand beaded adding a little glamour, glitz and weight to the corners.
Current fabrics; silk/rayon burnout velvet in a variety of patterns are washed; colors are then manipulated and hand dyed in small quantities giving way to fabulous two tone effects. Silk chiffon, habutai silks, lace and cotton voile are either crush pleated, broomstick or double box pleat. My signature 1/4" pleat design is hand folded, then pleated. No two are alike... Always looking for new ways to add texture and dimension either by fabrics, pleating details or bead work.
New treatments/textures include assorted fabrics, re-purposing of found scarves, vintage silk blouses and men's ties. I recently took a class where I worked with resin. Very fun and am looking into this further...
I love working with my hands, talking with friends/clients and other makers.
All scarves are wraped in my signature repurposed pleated paper.
Thanks for stopping by.

My workhorse sewing machine
... a hand-me down from my Mom... I think this Viking sewing machine is 35+ years old. And going strong... Every time I sit down to sew, I think about all the wonderful clothes, curtains, pillows and gifts that were made on this amazing machine.
My dress form...
My dress form has been with me for 30+ years. She was "made" in New York City in 1958 and is a size 18. She comes to most of my shows, "helps" with displays and is really quite popular.
My passion for fabric and handmade meet; designing one of a kind and limited edition scarves, wraps and kerchiefs. All items are shipped with a hang tag listing fabric content, care and unique beads used for each item.
