Fat Cats, Sea glass and Sterling Silver

I've lived in a coastal town all my life, but it wasn't until my Mother-in-law moved even closer to the beach (walking distance) that I developed a love for collecting sea glass. At first it was sort of like a contest with my husband and kids - who could find the prettier piece of sea glass. Each time we would visit his mom, we would stroll along the beach and experience the thrill of the hunt. But the more I collected, the more I began to feel inspired to want to create something with each piece I found. I was fascinated with imagining the history of each piece - was it from this century, perhaps the one before that or the one before that?!?

I have always been a creative person - ever since I was a little girl. Over the years, I've enjoyed drawing, painting, and working with clay. I then decided I'll give jewelry making a whirl. How was I supposed to know that this new endeavor would turn out so well for me? I have so much fun incorporating those little sea glass gems that I collected over the years into my creations. This passion has turned me into a self-taught silversmith and jewelry designer.

Helping with my creations are my two fat ragdoll cats - Lincoln and Remington - (Click on their pictures to read their specific jobs :)) hence the name - Fat Cats on the Beach. They love to "help" me on the workbench. Mostly getting in the way, but you got to love the curious nature of kitties! My daughter adds to my inspiration - she too is very creative - Always wanting to design with me. She is my go-to critic. My son is an artist in the making - his ability to draw with such detail is really amazing at the age of only 9. Who knows what the future holds for him? Then there is my best friend and husband of 22 years. The most loving and supportive husband anyone could ever ask for.

This gives you a little glimpse into my simple life here in Connecticut. I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy making them. For more pictures of my inspiration and creations follow me on Instagram @fat_cats_on_the_beach

Additional policies and FAQs
We will be more than happy to accomodate custom orders. Sea glass colors depend on what I find on our beaches - so let me know if there is a special color you are looking for. I just may have it.

If you would like me to add a gift note, just let me know - I will be more than happy to include your special little note :)

We can personalize any of our jewelry by adding a stamped sterling silver initial tag - see listing: http://www.etsy.com/listing/97713901/extra-personalized-initial-tag

Just a note to remember: Sea glass, Beach stones, Beach pottery and Seashells are fragile pieces of nature. These jewelry items need to be handled with care. Sometimes all it takes is one drop on the floor to shatter them. Believe me- I know! I've lost of few of my favorite pieces with a one slip of the hand.

Beach stones are natural absorbers of moisture. They will darken when in contact with the moisture in your skin. They will lighten again when dry just like they do in nature. To keep this from happening you can rub a little bit of lotion or oil into the stones to keep the dark color, but note that once you do this it will stay dark (like it's wet) for quite some time. I will usually apply a little oil to the stone after I am done making the piece to bring out the naturally rich color - it will fade after a while.

***Handstamped Jewelry - please note:

Because sterling silver is so soft, your personalized silver washers may become scratched over time. You can use a piece of 0000 steel wool to gently buff the scratches out.

I individually handstamp each letter and each piece has it's own unique quality. Some letters may not line up perfectly (I do the best I can - but I'm only human :)) but that is what gives it character and charm.
