Fatland Wood 'n Creations

After retiring and enjoying a few months of relaxation, my wife and I decided to work on our hobby of woodturning. We had already acquired a nice collection of various types of wood from friends and family. And, off to our shop we went where our wood lathes were waiting.
We specialize in creating useful wooden items that can be used in everyday life. Examples include wood-turned salad bowls, platters, handles for kitchen items such as ice cream scoops, coffee scoops and pizza cutters. We also make pepper grinders, salt and peppershakers, key rings, pill holders and various types of hand turned writing pens.
Our creations are made from wood such as Myrtlewood, Maple, Black Walnut, Oak, Cherry, Apple, and exotic species. All of which have their own unique colors and characteristics that make turning wood fun and very interesting. With this in mind, we always attempt to make high quality items. If any of our items are unsatisfactory we will do our best to exchange it or refund the purchase price.

Additional policies and FAQs
FAQ: If I order two or more of the “same item” will they match? Not necessarily. Due to the nature and characteristics of wood, we cannot guarantee that a customized item will look exactly alike. No two wooden items can ever come out exactly alike. This is the beauty of “one of a kind had made items.

FAQ: Salad bowls range in size from 8 inches up to 19 inches or more in diameter. What size do I need?
As a rule of thumb a 9 ½ bowl will hold enough salad for 4 to 6 people. A 11 ½ bowl will hold enough for 6 to 8 people and a 14 ½ bowl will hold enough for 8 to 12 people. Mike Mahoney (a well known bowl turner) suggests that a 10” bowl “will hold just about anything you want to put into it. However I would think about adding 1 inch in diameter for every additional member of your family.”

FAQ: How long does it take to have a bowl or platter custom made to order? The actual turning only takes a few hours. However, we need to make sure the wood is dry (less than 10% moisture content) before we can finish it. Consequently if the wood is already dry the entire process can take as little as a week. But if the wood is to moist we have to allow time for it to dry. This can take up six months from when we start working on it until it is finished and ready to ship. If you would like a custom made bowl or platter please contact us before you place the order. We need to verify that we have the wood that you are request prior to accepting your order. We also require a 25% non refundable down payment before we accept your custom order.
