Fearsome Queers T-Shirts & Patches

Olympia, Washington 7 Sales On Etsy since 2017

Announcement   This is the official launch of Stonewall Youth's Etsy page!

We have two new t-shirt designs as of April 2017 - "PROTECT TRANS YOUTH" and "FEMME AIN'T FRAIL" - and one old design from last year - "UNAPOLOGETIC QUEER."

We also have three patches from last year - "THIS IS WHAT ____ LOOKS LIKE", "WHY LET YOUR HEART BE PUZZLED?", and a BLACK CAT design.

All proceeds from our Etsy will go towards Stonewall Youth's Quest For a Permanent Home! We moved into a new location in downtown Olympia WA on April 15 2017 after signing a lease-to-own agreement on the space. The multipurpose building we are purchasing will be a good investment, allow us to expand our programming (including more youth and all-ages workshops, dances, performances, and other events) provide stability to LGBTQ+ youth and to the organization, and give us the opportunity to support emerging ventures.

We've raised over $60,000, enough for the down payment of the building, but WE NEED YOUR HELP to raise the rest. Along with investments and donations from supporters like you, Stonewall Youth is also securing funds from other sources: grants from private and public sources; a small business loan; crowdfunding; and loans from community members, to be paid back with an attractive interest rate.

About

♥Here And Queer For Over 25 Years - Help Us Buy A Permanent Home♥

Stonewall Youth (SY) is an organization of youth, activists, and allies that empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual, and intersex (LGBTQ+) youth to speak for themselves, educate their communities, support each other, and create social and systemic change. SY envisions a community in which all queer, gender variant, and gender non-conforming youth have a full spectrum of choices regarding their bodies, self-expression, and legal rights - this mission is guided by the organization’s core values of social justice, learning, sassiness, inclusion, compassion, family, and self-care.

Founded in 1991 by LGBTQ+ youth and allies who realized that LGBTQ+ youth had limited access to support and resources specific to their needs, SY started as a series of community meetings and a weekly peer support group. Over the past 25 years, SY has flourished and continues to grow - currently, SY offers weekly drop-in hours, mentorship, advocacy, educational workshops, art, music and writing programs, paid youth job opportunities, and more. Rooted in social justice and anti-oppression, SY works to address the causes of oppression while providing programming that alleviates the stresses of marginalization, and supports youth to survive and build sustainable lives. SY serves youth ages 21 and under who identify across the spectrum of LGBTQ+, living in Thurston, Mason, and Lewis counties of Washington State. Approximately 400 youth access the services of SY each year, with this number consistently increasing.

For the last 25 years, we’ve chosen to dedicate our resources to programs for LGBTQ+ youth rather than getting involved in a time-consuming Capital Campaign. But in 2016, the building we shared with several organizations for seven years was sold. We learned we would have to move for the new owner to develop the building.

We engaged in a full-fledged search for a new space to lease. Moving into a comparably sized space would mean that we’d be paying at least double our current monthly rent. Gentrification and development means that rental prices are rising beyond the affordability of many community organizations. We also found some surprisingly affordable places to purchase.

As we investigated our options, it became apparent that purchasing property would be the best course of action. Stonewall Youth has moved ten times in its 25-year history. Some of these moves were propelled by needing more space because of expanding programs. Most were caused by the problem we’re facing right now: being kicked out because of new owners who want to develop a building for a different use.

LGBTQ+ youth — many of whom have experienced homelessness and other types of instability and marginalization — want and deserve the permanence of the place in which they seek refuge, build memories, make art, dance, support each other, share skills, lead, heal, and grow.

Our supporters tell us they want to see their donations, grants, and volunteer hours build sustainable growth of services and programs. Along with supporting our programs, they’re enthusiastic about investing in property that has long-term benefits for Stonewall Youth, our collaborating organizations, and our community. We want to build equity that will fundamentally change the pattern of rental insecurity for Stonewall Youth and for other allied non-profits in our community.
