Festive Fibers is about bringing joyful color and wooly patterend felt fabrics of all kinds to the "treasure hunter"
Many years ago I saw someone in a Fiber Guild demonstrate how to make felt. This was the old fashioned kind of felt, wool fiber, plus hot soapy water and lots of rubbing, not the kind you can get in the craft stores. I was working in NY at the time, commuting about 3 hours a day working for a Fortune 500 Textiles manufacturer. My relaxation at that time was coming home and spinning wool yarn. (I would knit on the train commute) I love wool, I grew up loving wool, I love how wool takes color when it is dyed, I love dyeing it - as fiber or yarn. I love wearing it, walking on it, well, everything about wool. It was at that demo that I said "Ah Ha!" (That was the mid 90s, and then there were very few people out there making felt, let alone teaching) I remember hand made felt in the 70s, I recalled it to be very shaggy and kind of like giant macrame, not very interesting to me. That "Ah Ha", was me thinking - 'hey, I can make my own wool patterned fabric!' and a passion, and business was born. I officially began Festive Fibers in 1998, started in the basement of a garden apartment in Edison NJ. My felt-making was mostly self learned. My husband and I moved to beautiful New Hampshire in 2000, converted the barn on our property into the Festive Fibers Studio and promptly began traveling all over the country selling our felt. Mostly at craft shows. I worked at my art, craft and designs so much that eventually I began being accepted at very prestigious Museum Shows and have been published internationally. I began teaching felt making in response to the many many people who I met at shows saying "I love what you do, I love your color and your joy, can you teach this?" So instruction is a portion of what I do. I opened my Etsy shop when traveling around the country became unrealistic. I consider my Etsy Shop like my Create Lab (Think tank!) I can explore an idea, work it through and put it up for sale. My faithful customers don't have to wait for the annual show for me to "hit town" they can just stop by here and see what is new. I am constantly learning, observing and changing. I get inspired by the most surprising things sometimes! Thank you for visiting, come back again and bring a friend!
