About
Field and Fauna jewelry: a nature-inspired jewelry line
I'm currently a Phd student, and though I spend most of my day in a neuroscience lab, I like to make jewelry to unwind. I find inspiration in nature and in the elegance of the brain. I started creating jewelry because I found it hard to find well-constructed, durable pieces which suited my nature-inspired aesthetic and weren't mass-produced. Everything in my shop is solid and durable enough to be enjoyed for a lifetime with the proper care.
The process:
Every step of the process is done entirely by me. I make my own molds to shape the unfinished metal clay piece, usually from found objects in nature or from my own clay carvings. After shaping, the pieces are sanded and further refined and carved by hand, and finally kiln-fired. After firing, the piece left behind is made up of pure copper. I then add finishing touches in the last stage, where I use a patina for contrast and seal the piece with wax.
Copper is my favorite medium- I feel it best captures the organic nature of my jewelry. Copper will naturally age depending on the wearer's individual pH and the amount of wear, so each piece will develop a different patina as a reflection of that object's unique history.

Additionally, some people have a reaction to copper metal- If you find that you fit into this category, but love the design of your necklace, I also offer the option to upgrade to a silver pendant on sterling silver chain for an additional $20 for materials cost. This option is available for those who have already purchased a necklace (feel free to send me a message and we can work out an exchange or refund).

Shipping costs withing the domestic US are free! I can ship internationally (it will cost extra)- please inquire about international shipping so that I can calculate an accurate shipping cost for you. Priority (2-3 day) shipping is extra - just choose the shipping option when you check out.
