About

Fairy Door Assemblages are symbolic for Change, Opportunity, and Hope

Creating fairy door assemblages has become a favorite way to up-cycle and share my love of nature and found objects. Making these pieces is a real passion, and I try to make each one unique. They are symbolic for me.

Doors represent opportunities. Crossing a threshold, either a literal or figurative one, holds the promise of a new beginning. What lies beyond the door may be something previously deemed impossible, improbable, or maybe just what one expected in their hearts.

This little door is a portal to a magical place where a belief in something larger (or way smaller) than ourselves is the catalyst for unlooked-for potential energy and ideas. Bilbo, Alice, Lucy, Dorothy Gail, and others have illustrated just how important a door can be to the adventurer, the traveler, the accidental wanderer. Its tiny size bring to mind the wee fae (leprechauns, fairies, pixies, gnomes, brownies, and elves) who have dominated the past with their lore and tales of magic and change.

This door has not been made by the skilled hand of a trained artisan, but crudely knocked into being by one who believes in trial and error, dwells on wishes and dreams. It may be fragile in that it is made of objects that are naturally decayed, old, worn, and reused.

So choose a place of this notion, this inkling, this tiny piece of magic possibilities. It could be near your door, on a shelf, on a porch, above a baeboard, or really anywhere; but it MUST BE HUNG so that the door may swing freely to be used. Opportunity needs a door on which to knock...you should be ready to open.
