About

Fiesta Cat Fiber Arts

Artist Statement: Allison Ehle

With every new yarn I spin, there is a connection between fiber, color, texture and touch. This brings to life a truly unique and new handspun yarn. Handspun yarn is special to me because of the personal touch it takes to make it, as well as the overall creative process that results in a one of a kind yarn.
I choose my fibers for spinning by local availability and overall quality. I love soft fibers but also look for something that will hold up in a finished product as well (knit, crochet, weave, etc). Alpaca fiber is one of my favorite fibers to work with because of the luxurious, soft feel and also there is an abundance available to me locally. I am even able to meet some of the animals and it’s such a treat to see where the fiber comes from and have that connection as well.
Currently I am focusing on highlighting the natural, undyed fibers with unexpected splashes of hand-dyed colors. I prefer to spin slightly loose, lofty yarns in more of a thin/thick style. My handspun yarn can be enjoyed on its own or used in a variety of arts and crafts projects. My goal is to create handspun yarn that translates a traditional craft into a contemporary art.
Fiesta Cat Yarn is hand-spun in the Pacific NW.
