Blocking a hand knit blanket really improves its appearance! Lots of blocking tips and tutorial photos on my blog:

Weaving in the ends on a new project. When I knit a blanket or scarf I prefer to make mid-row transitions from one skein of yarn to the next...this keeps the edges clean. blush
Cozy hand knit blanket + a great book = a relaxing evening heartblushheart

About

Fifty Four Ten Studio - It started with Christmas ornaments:

I love making Christmas ornaments for my family and friends! One size fits all! Almost every year for the past 20 years I’ve come up with one or two Christmas ornament projects and I’ve made a whole bunch of them to give to my family and close friends. When I opened my Etsy shop in November 2013, my first two patterns were for Christmas ornaments.

Though I've branched out to other pattern themes, the constant through all my patterns is a desire to write clear directions so you will be successful. I use row by row knitting directions in standard US terms. Any abbreviations are explained in the pattern. When appropriate, my patterns include photos and step-by-step instructions to guide you through the project.

By the time I finish writing a knitting pattern, I have made the item at least twice (often many more times!) and I have spent many hours writing the pattern, taking photos, and carefully scrutinizing every detail of the knitted item and the final document. My hope is that these efforts will make it easy for you to knit the item, help you learn new skills, and result in you being proud of your finished project.

Fifty Four Ten Studio is named for the house number of the home my grandparents purchased in 1950, when my mother was a young girl. Still today, many years after the home was sold, my family refers fondly to my grandparent's home by the house number…5410.

I have been knitting since I was about 8 years old. My mother taught me to knit and my parents encouraged me to explore all kinds of arts & crafts activities by providing me with the materials that I needed to create. These days I live in Kansas with my very supportive husband and two great teenagers. I love being at home (working on knitting patterns!) to greet them when they walk in the door after school.

I hope that you enjoy using my patterns to create special heirloom quality items for your home, friends & family. Thanks so much for visiting my shop!

Welcome to Fifty Four Ten Studio!

All of the patterns for sale in my store were created by me. I do all of the designing and knitting. I take a lot of notes when working on a new design. Then I write the pattern, putting careful thought into everything you will need to know to be successful. When appropriate, my patterns include photos and tutorials to help you with any techniques which may be new to you.

I hope that you enjoy using my patterns to create special heirloom quality items for your home, friends & family.
