About

Yarn happens, store begins.

When Carol Rasmussen Noble died in November of 2011 after a long battle with cancer, she left a remarkable legacy to the world of textile arts: her love of color and texture, her appreciation of quality and tradition, her unique eye and sense of design, and her extensive skills and knowledge.

FindYourGlist supports her legacy in offering to others some of what she left behind: her stash of yarns, supplies, reference sources, knitting and lacework, so that they can go out to to seed further creations and connections. These along with vintage items strong in their ability to capture the senses, and rich in story, are what comprise the small but varied collection of items offered for sale at FindYourGlist.

Carol had a wide range of interests and abilities. Her fluency in Spanish (Carol had a Masters of Arts in Spanish Literature) supported her study of native Andean textiles from Peru and Bolivia. She traveled mountain roads to highland villages to learn and collect from indigenous artists and craftspersons. She published papers on several aspects of this field.

Early in her career Carol won awards for quilting and weaving and published a paper on wedge weave. She also taught herself to produce tailored suits, shirts and coats. She became active in embroidery, creating designs and pieces in many traditions of the field; several of her works won prizes and were exhibited on National Standards Council tours. As her strength and hand-eye coordination decreased, she transitioned to knitting, designing many one of a kind sweaters for herself and others and publishing several pattern books with the focus on sweaters for the larger woman.

Carol found another passion in the textile traditions of North Europe and the Isles. Her book on Shetland gloves and mittens is an accepted technical reference.

It was in lace knitting that Carol perhaps reached her pinnacle as a designer and knitter. Carol had the good fortune to travel to the Shetland Islands several times and to be mentored by Margaret Leask Peterson, an accomplished lace knitter Shetland knitters traditionally mentor only one person during their lifetime. Carol was extremely happy when their joint book on Shetland lace was published in 2009. Carol herself created a number of Shetland Lace shawl designs. Carol also traveled to Russia and with Galina Khmeleva completed a monograph on Russian Orenberg Shawls, which is a standard in the field.
