"Fine Art For Small Spaces" ™

Nature is a gift in our lives, but we are so very busy. When you bring a piece of my art into your world, you can experience a moment in time and heal your heart gazing upon or gifting to someone special a flower, landscape, bird or cat painting, card or print. Here is my story:
Art is my first language. I always enjoyed doodling and drawing from the time I was able to hold a crayon. When I was four years old, my immediate family immigrated to America from Europe, leaving behind what is now the Czech Republic. As I struggled to learn English, I discovered that drawing was a way to bridge the language and culture gap. I attended art school at U of M, Ann Arbor and after decades of grappling with different subjects and styles, I ultimately gravitated back to creating images of nature in its many forms, whether vast or intimate, with the hope that an image could spark a connection in others to people, moments and places fondly remembered.
Most of my inspiration comes from my direct surroundings, and from recollections of places I have traveled to within the United States. I am an avid amateur gardener, and have always been fascinated by the appearance of unintentional plants and flowers, courtesy of the winds, birds, and squirrels in our neighborhood. I enjoy creating images of nature that are frequently overlooked, and celebrate the beauty of imperfection in blossom petals that have withstood insects and the elements.
Every Autumn in particular my yard is filled with a myriad of sparrows, woodpeckers, buntings, cardinals...it becomes an airport for these world travelers as they prepared to depart to warmer climates. Different birds represent different moments and ideas to each of us, so it was a perfect opportunity to paint a myriad of birds! I spent quite a bit of time observing how so many species could group together and watch out for each other with warning calls, sharing berries and seeds from the garden and the feeders. After many days of observation, it became rather impossible not to humanize their interactions with each other! Nature is our common experience; the sum of many small differences. To me, birds symbolize how all of us with our differences across the world can come together and celebrate the community of being.
Celebrate your history, no matter where the world takes you! Bring a piece of your innermost joy with you wherever you go! Portable, durable, original, authentic art created to withstand the test of time, and remind you of where you were, where you went, and where you decided to nest down. Embrace your present, honor your past, cherish your future!
