super fast shipping, even though I told him to take as long as he liked. What an amazing piece and surface. Exactly as described. Doesn't drip either! :)

About

Potter, writer, teacher.

I am a woodfire potter living and working in Wisconsin. I have owned Mill Creek pottery since 1999. Since that time I have had 16 apprentices who have come through here and continued to contribute to the ceramics world. We have three distinctive wood-fired kilns, and I have built similar kilns around the US and Taiwan and China.

In 1993 I fell in love with the movement of flame through a wood-kiln. Its sensuous quality is something I seek to capture in my work with soft forms, full curves and flame paths etched into the surface. This quest led me to an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. I now own Mill Creek Pottery in Wisconsin, where my apprentices and I work to advance the cause of wood-fired pottery. In 2013 I was a Fulbright Senior Scholar in Taiwan exploring the potential of local materials. Recently I have been a visiting artist, lecturer and kiln builder at The China Academy of the Arts in Hangzhou. There my apprentices and I have been bringing a technology that originated in Asia and has evolved in the incubator of the United States back to Asia. Clay is central to my life.

Welcome: I make functional pottery for use in the home. The most intimate space is in the hand. I am an artist and a craftsman. What this means is that I make individual expressive work that is lovingly made to the highest degree possible. I am unwilling to swap quality for effect or vise-verse.

The work I post on Etsy are gems from each kiln load. I find great joy in the marks of flame and fire that decorate each piece, I hope you find a similar fascination and connection to the work.
