Great coat, quick international shipping, perfect!
Together with my Aries "fire" sign and my gypsy heritage our shop name Firegypsy Vintage was born. My great grandmother was known to do tea leaf readings and have Séance parties in Paris during the 1940s, she was an inspiration.
I used to think about her when I spent a year exploring the States in a Volkswagen bus feeling very gypsy-like.
Since I was a little girl my mother would take me to swap meets and antique stores. I felt like a treasure hunter. I adored digging in the hidden boxes that had all the scraps of lace, buttons and oddities. I would incorporate my findings into art. I was instantly an aficionado of the past.
With Firegypsy Vintage, I am a working artist, designer, photographer, model, graphic designer, secretary, postal worker and antiquarian.
Our shop mainly focuses on vintage clothing from the 30s to the 90s.
I find it amazing when garments last 20 to 50 years; when most of today's clothing can barely make it through 4 washings without falling apart. You can feel the quality in vintage clothing and fabrics, they are heavier, stronger and softer. I adore the textures, weaves, knits and subtle details in vintage items, that you rarely find with modern clothes. The sweetness of little shoulder straps delicately braided at the inside of a vintage dress, to hold up a bra strap or to hide a hanky, always pleases me.
I smile when I see lace ribbon on the backside of hemlines. I like to think about and imagine the people that spent the time hand-stitching and choosing the best fabric for their work of art. I love the challenge of taking tossed treasures and bringing them to life again. I feel that I am giving them a new life, a new story. Letting them travel the world again, rather than getting moth bites in a dark closet or tossed in the landfill.
My current obsession is making custom-made, one of a kind wearable art.
Our decorated festival boots, custom made jewelry and upcycled clothing staples fulfill my creative passions.
I know that if I am not dancing around, playing dress up, using my hands and trying new things, I am not happy.
So for now, happiness is here for me...
